They project so far forward that when you miss you practically fall down by yourself without any help from your oponent. When you extend your leg so far that your center of gravity is no longer over your standing foot you have no option but to step/fall forward. If that's intentional/tactical go for it. But its not common kick practice so why use it to teach defense against kicking? Just a pet peeve of mine. (Note that "gun defense" similarly peeves me. It works (like the above kicks) in limited scenarios or when your oponent is stupid. Guns are a range weapon. Using one at punching/grappling range as the aggresor is stupid. Better to teach your students to fake a heart attack or something). -steve --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "wtf" To: Date: Fri, 17 Jun 2005 19:56:26 -0700 Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Video Clips: Russian martial arts/Attitude Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi Steve K., Guro Mark Balluff always tells me too the same thing, that Punong Guro Edgar used to say "train with intention". For me its become a good mental tool to use when self training using imagery of some big mean bad guy that wants to take my head off with a crowbar when trying to break up stick patterns... really gives me much more focus when theres no one around to train with ( which is most of the time for me =( heh lol). The kind of intention you were talking about when Ray is feeding you seems so important to me now when training with another person, for one, it makes me so much more aware of the whole engage/dis-engage principle along with other energies.. ahh all this typing about training makes me want to go train., but cant right now cuz im at work hehehe. peace!
