Most foot blisters are formed when you wear ill-fitting shoes during physical activities such as walking or jogging. You can develop blisters on your hands if you forget to wear protective gloves when using a hammer, shovel or even riding your bike. If a blister continues to be rubbed every day, (such as on your foot because of uncomfortable shoes), it may eventually turn into a callus. Calluses are often formed on the hands or feet because of pressure and friction on the same area of skin over a prolonged period of time. After awhile, your skin hardens from the pressure and eventually dies forming a hard yellowish or grayish surface that may feel rough. When you develop a callus on your hands from riding your bike for example, it's your skin's way of protecting itself. This way, your handlebars touch hardened lifeless skin instead of irritating the soft, healthy skin underneath. When a callus forms on your feet, however, it can hurt because you have to step on them all day. Calluses usually form on the ball of your foot, the heel or on the side of your big or little toe. The next time you get a blister remember to keep it dry and cover it with a bandage until it goes away. If it's on your foot, try wearing shoes that won't put pressure on it or rub it while it heals. A good source for rattan sticks is[www.bloodsport.com]. They have them many lengths and diameters from 3/4" to 1 and 1/4 inches. " Hockey tape is ok but leaves a lot of dirt on one's hands at the beginning. I swear by tennis grips, particularly on the heavier, hickory sledge hammer handles. Electricians tape works on rattan but may be too smooth for some. Michael Koblic, Campbell River, B. Squeeze out the juice, and squeeze some zinc oxide in there, which will dry and toughen the inside skin.
