Does anyone know where I might find a Lima Lama tape by Kazja on Inside Trapping? He offered a series a few years ago. The inside trapping tape was tape #3 of this (Ka)Lima Lama series. any leads would be appreciated. Even if it is too far for daily class maybe you can make it for some seminars. We hold them quite frequently. you can email me for more info ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Steve, I am a FMA student who has recently moved to the Northern Virginia area from California. As far as I can tell there are no traditional FMA schools in this area. One may have to go to the NY,NJ,MD or PA areas to find schools that teach a traditional FMA. There are however a whole bunch of options for those seeking JKD-FMA blends. A school that seems to be popular here is Trident Academy in Woodbridge Va. Please let me know if your friend finds any traditional FMA schools that teach a complete, Filipino, stick based, lineaged style e.g. ; Cabales Serrada, Giron DeFondo or Inayan style in the No.Va. area. I am interested in continuing my education in Escrima and would really appreciate any leads she runs across. Stay sticky. sierraecho1@comcast.net > Message: 1 > From: "Stephen Yarnall" > To: "Escrima, Digest" > Date: Sat, 20 Aug 2005 00:26:55 -0400 > Subject: [Eskrima] FMA Training in the Alexandria VA area > Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > > I have a female friend who lives in the Alexandria, Va. Very cool. It looks like I will be visiting over in that direction in January. I may be booking a tour there to play in Amsterdam for January and February. Right now it looks pretty positive. I am curious about weather there that time of year. I bet it is a cold son-of-a-gun. Hope your training goes well. Academy of Martial Arts Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Yeah. I've seen it. I can't tell if the guy is a serious flake or if he's trying to con people or if he's trying to make a funny spoof video. I don't think he's trying to con people since, from what I could tell, there was no indication that he was asking for money or to buy his video or anything else. While the guy does apparently have some training, I think the video overall is a crock. I just can't see if he's intentionally being a crock or if he's serious. Academy of Martial Arts Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Depends some on your interests. But all of the Edgar Sulite tapes are excellent. Bobby Taboada's Balintawak series is also excellent. Sulite and Taboada are some of the best instructional videos I've ever seen for FMA - and I say that from a perspective of the videos being very cleanly edited with clear and concise instruction presented, and a lot of good information. Whether the specific material they present interests you is a whole different issue. However, other good ones are Dan Inosanto vids, Harley Elmore has some good vids out (http://warriorswaytx.com), and I'm sure there are others that I'm unaware of. But these are some of the good ones that I've seen over the years. Harley Elmore is definately one I recommend, you should also should get a tape specific to your style as well,as there are many styles of FMA/Eskrima but if you are looking for general stuff please refer to the email I sent you..which as well as recommending Guro Harley has a link to our chief instructors website: http://www.krishnagodhania.org/store.html Kit >From: "Mike Casto" >Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >To: >Subject: RE: [Eskrima] Instructional/training video series >Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2005 11:29:24 -0400 > >Depends some on your interests. > >But all of the Edgar Sulite tapes are excellent. I have a few hundred MA videos in my collection. Videos are very good for one thing, giving you new and fresh ideas into how others execute and teach an art in which you are already proficient. In other words, learning from videos is NOT for beginners. Not sure where you fit in... beginner, intermediate, master. But if you are a beginner, i.e. less than two or three years of regular and frequent training, then I'd recommend just sticking close to your instructor. There is plenty of time for exploring the video/DVD scene.
