If you happen to come across any contact information for Jeff Arnold, Please forward it to me. We lost touch in the 90's. Recent searches for email etc haven't turned up anything for me. As to the TKD on American Arnis, I'm sure there were some big ones. And you are probably right. They probably were for Jeff and Mike being that they were both already teaching TKD as their primary art when they made the transition to the new curriculum. In my experience though the kicking art was eclipsed by Arnis. Trad. Forms were initially used to develop rhythm and coordination but were stripped away in the California school to be replaced with short set fighting drills. At that time, Presas taught Modern Arnis only as an adjunct to other existing styles. Both Arnold and Replogle wanted a unified education which included more empty hand combat skills. --The expansion of the filipino martial arts (in both popular and martial cultures) as more than just stick fighting (including awareness of its language and culture) didn't occur until another 5 or more years had passed. It is a rough thing to lead into uncharted territories. It took GM Presas 10 years to gain acceptance for Modern Arnis in the US. In that time he did an incredible job of making it accessible. --I have articles dating back to the late 70's where he markets it as the "24 hour" Martial Art-- The phase we are now in (where filipino arts use filipino language and culture to teach as part of their curriculum) Is a long way from those beginnings.
