Just curious. I spoke to some christian missionaries years ago who went to the Phillipines (probably around 1980) and they came back with a wide collection of everyday items they came across. I remember a small dart launcher similar to a sling shot that they described as using against a plague of small lizards the came through the unscreened windows where they lived. During long rains the children would make a game of it / keep score. I don't know if this was true. I was small and impressionable then. >From memory the device was like a slingshot of having a yoke (two bands) but couldn't remember the length of the dart or what rest was used if any. All, Recently I reseached through google "Frederick's Moro" book platelettes on many pages they appear, they had an odd looking axes, the blade was convex curved and was pointed at the top tip and it was referred to as a head axe. My question was this for removal after defeat or is it an actual weapon. BTW thanks for the information on the Panabas. I recently constructed a training wooden one and found it considerably useful. Do many FMA practice defense against a two handed weapon? or defense with a two handed weapon other than the staff (bankaw?) -Lance -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Plus the groin area for males. For thrusts, exceptions as valid targets are the head and throat, as currently the headgear does not adequately protect the face/throat against these. Even the soles of the feet are valid target areas. It must be pointed out, though, that for a strike to be regarded as a point, it not only has to be on a valid area, it also has to pass certain criteria. Legitemate strikes are that which are clearly seen, having sufficient power and intent. As such, "tagging" or merely touching the opponent with the stick, and mindless flailing of the stick are not considered for points. I hope this aids somewhat in clarifying the rules. For this, I will always be grateful to Pat Morita... Although they may seem outlandish to the layman, the techniques shown in the first Karate Kid movie were quite advanced and were probably lifted from the white crane form of Shorin Ryu (which originally came from Fukien in Southern China). To the Doubting Thomases out there who may want to double-check, try watching the Hakutsuru video of Master George Alexander and you will see the "wax-on, wax-off" techniques including the famous jumping front kick from the crane stance. -- __--__-- Message: 2 Date: Fri, 25 Nov 2005 21:47:41 -0800 (PST) From: Steve Kohn Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Mr. Miyagi has died.
