Events start at 10AM. We will hold forms competitions first followed by the fights. All fights are 3 rounds with 30 sec breaks. The Eskrima/MMA Cage matches (3 -2 minute rounds) will be held on Saturday as well., while the "Pro-Eskrima" (Money purse) 6 round bout will be held on Sunday evening. Master "Dong"s work shop will be held on Sunday but at 12, not 1PM. Anyone interested in participating in any of these events please contact me as we are trying to set up the matches for the Cage match and the Pro fight. The web site (www.battleattheboardwalk.com) has all registration and hotel information. The preceding passage to me is not 100% clear. I understand you to be describing a standard grip. Does your reference to ripping movements mean that the edge is up? When I was in Italy a few years ago I bought one as a gift for my best friend since the one from Italy was of much better quality than the cheap ones normally carried/ purchased My friend has told me often people want to buy his from him . Also they are often referred to as a ratchet( cant remember any other names for it). I always wondered the history behind that type of knife and Jamaica but never had the time to look into it. For what its worth. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi Guys I'm finding the most likely attack post by Marc and Daniel quite interesting. People who routinelly use knives are African or Coloured ( Cape Malay, Mixed descent) especially in the Cape area. Everyone learn how to knife fight through drills learnt in childhood, at through watching people getting stabbed. It's a matter of know how to use a knife or be its victim. Knife fighting is normally called Ghonni, Piper or Melha depending on what comunity one comes from. The knife of choice is an Okapi 1907E ( http://www.okapi-knives.com/ ) locally made blades. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Autos. Looking for a sweet ride? Although I remain skeptical of the idea that "conventional" martial arts practitioners of FMA etc. would always get eaten up by Piper. There are no superior arts; what matters is the skill of the individuals involved. --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Sat, 28 Jan 2006 10:47:43 -0800 (PST) From: Jonathan Kessler To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Knife stores in Dallas TX area Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I'll be making a lightening quick business trip in and out of Dallas (Richardson, actually) this week (no time to train with anyone there, sigh...) I was thinking there must be a decent blade store in that particular metropolis if I can get a little time on my lunch break to go shopping. Any recommendations? The answer is yes you can on two conditions. First leave my name on it, second, put my URL on it. It is copyrighted not only as an email, but also as part of a new project I am working on about bridging the gap between effectiveness and legal self-defense using a knife.
