Also have the locals done any modifications to the knive to assist in a quick opening action? Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net All, I live in a fairly peaceful area in Canada, but the old ways where I live still spurt out racism. A chinese-canadian family who lives in my neighbourhood taught their young daughters to always have a book bag and a pair of track shoes with the laces tied together in them. (They all run in track too) When one of the girls was facing several bullies; off came the back pack into shield position and the spiked track shoes became a pair of chucks fired off from behind enough books in the back-pack to stop small calibre ammunition. I would suspect this was a good deterent even from attackers with melee weapons. I wonder what would happen now that all the younger siblings are in the same school walking together, wonder how they would organize themselves.... -Lance Cross --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Mon, 30 Jan 2006 12:41:12 -0800 (PST) From: noirpalm To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] okapi or ratchet knife Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Ollie thanks for the posts and link , the 907E is the preferred one with the key ring attachment. Like I said except for the one I bought for my friend all the ones I have seen were low quality I never paid attention to who made them. When I get a chance I'll look at a few to see who the manufacturer was. To: Subject: [Eskrima] Okapi, Clasp or Ratchet knife Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Click on the following for some good pics of this type of knife: http://www.talkblade.info//viewtopic.php?p=73070&sid=b7221fdb31e3116577cce63 18423075b Possibly first developed in Germany. The clasp-action being designed so that the knife opens with a flick of the wrist. The action is mimicked by rappers and suchlike, many of whom may not even know where the action comes from. It's after midnight, I've just gotten off a plane, and have been travelling on business for several days now. So I'm not entirely clear headed, but I am very, very clear and excited about this seminar. Crossfit Boulder Creek and the Inayan Martial Arts Association are pleased to present Guro Larry Lindenman in a Kali/Silat seminar on Thursday February 9. Guro Lindenman has generously volunteered his time and knowledge in a benefit to raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society (and to have a good old time doing FMA with other like-minded individuals). All funds raised will go to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. For those of you unfamiliar with Guro Lindenman, a bio is posted at http://www.ronbalicki.com/info/history_lindenman.htm This will be an exceptional and fun event. Participants of all levels are expected, and one of Guro Lindenman's gifts is being able to teach to various levels, so I for one am very excited about seeing what transpires. Even more, I look forward to the opportunity of learning from a truly gifted and experienced martial artist. The seminar details: Guro Larry Lindenman Thursday February 9, 7 pm CrossFit Santa Cruz 2851 Research Park Dr. Unit B Soquel, CA 95073 Suggested donation: $20 Bring sticks and training blades if you have them, and a willingness to train hard and have big fun!
