It seems that the author of the article was primarily talking from a military combat perspective. In a military combat situation, you will not be totally in control of your actions. You will have to follow the chain of command. You cannot just execute a retrogade maneuver on your own. That would be tantamount to "an act of cowardice before the enemy". The punishment for that under military laws of most countries is death by firing squad. The word "retreat", for example, cannot even be found in US field manuals. The term used is always "retrogade"... =[:->] If you are a civilian, you are not bound by such military legalese. Your primary concern is to survive. You first option, therefore, should always be to run. BTW, I have personally interviewed a few real-life knifers (take note, not "knife-fighters") in my younger days and, based on their experiences, the only ones who survived them are those who ran... Perhaps, there must be a lesson there somewhere... =[:->] > Message: 3 > Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2006 22:42:54 -0800 (PST) > From: Jye nigma > To: MartialArtsTalk@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [Eskrima] article. cardinal rules of combat > Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > > The following article is based on the principles and techniques taught in > the Armed and Dangerous Knife Defense DVD series. (Ray) Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net the answer to becoming a instructor is teaching it........a black belt who does not teach the arts, yes will have pore skills in passing on there knowledge and information. but the more you teach the more you learn you own style of teaching which in everyone is very different. so this is some thing that you do not learn from a teacher but from your experiences. (as you already have the martial arts skills as you are a black belt) what are your thought to the other comments that i made then my fma brother. guro michael --------------------------------- To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net i think that is a healthy and good thing that people start there own small groups of filipino martial arts and martial arts in general, as new ideas, new concepts are born. then there own style of fma is born,....... but this is just my thoughts on the matter. i also think that there should never be someone who says......(no you can do that, you must pick a style that already famous...e.g modern arnis or sayoc or ilustrimo etc etc......) i encourage the free thoughts of someone who feels they have the vision to try and create there own concept of martial arts. every style has come from this path........so new styles must be born from old as any generation takes over from the next. never forgeting the past, just learning from it and evolving to the next level......may that be higher or for some lower.......lol. instructor is for me a matter of being able to teach your would be students the techniques that you have mastered, this is just a matter of mastering you personal skill's and finding your own style of expressing this which is just a matter of time......and like anything you get better at it as time goes on. salamat po guro michael --------------------------------- To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! Perhaps, but I would hope they have learned the old concepts before trying to come up with new ones. Else we just end up with more McDojos, which is perhaps where the FMAs are heading anyway. :( Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- Message: 9 From: Ray To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net (Eskrima) Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2006 17:59:02 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Eskrima] Portugese stick fighting Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Portugese stick fighting www.jumpingpixels.com/jogodopau.html Ray Terry rterry@idiom.com --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
