He is a 'contractor', but best known for being one of the early US karate legends, along with the likes Jhoon Rhee, Allen Steen, Pat Burleson, Skipper Mullins, Joe Lewis, Fred Wren, Chuck Norris, Mike Stone, Bill Wallace, Ed Parker, etc. Roger is teaching Inayan there during his downtime from security. I will be teaching Silat Seni Harimau Berantai, this is the family system of Guru Jak Othman from Kuala Lumpur. The system has many unique aspects, especially the Buah Kuncian (locks) which are horrible! Class starts at 7:30pm on Wed 22 March. See you there Jon "There's nothing more dangerous than a blunt knife" http://www.pecahan.net --__--__-- Message: 4 From: "Peter Gow" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2006 00:53:09 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] The origins of Protective Equipment and Kalis Ilustrisimo Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Dear All, Seeing that we talked about protective equipment I thought I would put this one paragraph  excerpt from Page 46, The Secrets of Kalis Ilustrisimo by Antonio Diego and Christopher Ricketts "After Ricketts suggested that the Ilustrisimo group could improve their fighting skills through sparring, whenever they engaged in such practices, the sessions would end after one or two blows as a result of swollen hands and broken fingers. In answer to this, Yuli Romo developed the first padded rattan stick, and Edgar Sulite developed the first form-fitting hand pads. As a result, from that point on they were able to train more realistically without experiencing crippling injuries at every turn." This book is written well and is an enjoyable read. Once started you cannot put it down.
