I really do appreciate your creative input. I believe that our art should be shared with everyone. As a Filipino, I am proud of our heritage and culture and am very pleased with the interest the world has taken to FMA and how popular it has become. As for Pekiti exercises, Mike mentioned the dirty dozen in a recent post, and you can't go wrong with footwork exercises (triangles, diamonds etc.). Instead of giving you two days notice, this time you have four! This Saturday, 10 AM to 3 PM, I want everyone (martial artists and non-martial artists, grand parents, parents and children) within commute distance of Pleasanton, CA to drop by the school and say hello to the Barangay Dance Troupe. They will be conducting a workshop on the martial dances of the Philippines for all interested parties. Admission is free, but donations to their non-profit endeavor would be welcome! Those who learn the dances will get to perform with them in future events, such as the upcoming International Dance Festival at the Palace of Fine Arts, in San Francisco. If you're interested in performing with them, or you have friends or children who would enjoy doing this type of activity, bring them! At that time also, I will be discussing/soliciting interest for the following schedule of activities: Saturdays: 10-12 Noon : For children, youth, and adults: Philippine Folk Dance classes/practice (professional quality) 12 Noon - 1 PM: Lunch Break 1 - 3 PM -- For youth and adults: Philippine Martial Arts classes/practice 3 - 5 PM -- For our senior citizens and the young at heart: Ballroom Dance classes/practice/social -- I need to secure an instructor for this! Sundays: Special events, such as martial art seminars conducted by visiting grandmasters, Barangay dress rehearsals, etc. Location: Club One Fitness Center (at the former PeopleSoft complex now occupied by Kaiser Permanente) 4460 Hacienda Drive, Bldg A Pleasanton CA 94588 Any questions, please email or phone me, Thanks! It is taught by Guru Shamim Haque, who is the Chief Instructor for Kalis Ilustrisimo (under Grand Master Tony Diego) for the UK and Ireland. Please see our website www.kalis-ilustrisimo.org for class location and more information about our club/classes. There are also other Arnis(FMA) classes in the London Area, Doce Pares with Grand Master Danny Guba (he is an extremely nice man, who I have been very fortunate enough to meet in London many years ago), Rapid Arnis (I believe a class is opening soon near Ilford - please email Guru Pat O'Malley for info), Kapatirian Arnis (Masters Jude Tucker/John Harvey), and not forgetting Master Bob Breens Academy at Hoxton. Why not go along to all and see which one you fancy taking up! Best wishes and Good luck with your training.. They thought it was really cool. My brother-in-law liked it and he would like to get them going in this. He asked about any schools on island. Does anyone know of any programs there, I can put them in touch with? Galang. Train hard and have fun! Dennis    Hi Dennis, It would take too long to really do "Masters Of The Blade" the credit that it is due, however, it is an excellent book much in the same vein as "Warrior Arts of the Philippines."  It covers a good number of masters of the knife and is chock full of training drills that each one does.  It is a great book for someone who is gettign into the blade as well as someone who is already versed in it. I could tell right away that it was a Philippine sword even before he gave me some info on it. He said a filipina lady sold it to him and said it was her father's or grandfather's. The blade itself is about 20" long, with surface rust on the blade. The finger guard had some rust. It was brass colored. The handle is still in good condition. The blade curves downward with a little belly towards the end. The scabbard is leather. Good condition, but it looks like it's been in a garage & neglected. I know pictures are worth a thousand words, but I didn't have my digicam at the time. I have never seen one in this "good" condition in the states. Does anyone know what something like this is worth or what I should offer? Or point me in the right direction. I'll probably keep it and practice with it every once in awhile. I'm speculating it came when the philippine laborers came to hawaii. So maybe 20-60 years old? Anyway, any tips, ideas on what it's worth, offer price, anything?
