Was he sick?" Mr. Brewster died in a peaceful sleep about three weeks ago. We shared a student, whom I am teaching xingyi. I am thinking Charles worked with PT guys as well. Yes, I met Charles in the Pekiti -Tirsia group I train with and he took me to train with George a few times after I mentioned reading about him. It was after one of his work-outs in the park on a Sunday when we went out for lunch. I trained in an area near the hospital with George on a Tuesday also. He was a very motivating guy and was great to talk with. His group was the only other group around here besides us that would train outside in inclement weather and frigid temps. I was sorry to hear of his passing. World Cup and SEA Games bronze medalist Mark Eddiva beat Andrew Benibe of Suntukaran Todo Bakbakan via a second round stoppage to post his second victory in the qualifying matches and advance to the grand championship, sponsored by Pagcor and PCSO, slated in August. The other wushu athletes who notched their second victory in the event, backed by PLDT, Revicon, Tanduay Rhum, Motolite, Superb Security, Phi Resto Bar, South Sea's Grill, Elbow Room Rest. and Partas Bus Line, were Joel Amurao, Joseph Pasiwat and Edward Kelly, who all won via choke in the first round, while Jovan Presbeterio of Maic's Gym disposed of Celso Gunda Jr, of Fight Club in the second round to join the wushu bets in the main draw. Amurao stopped Noble Ampoc of Yaw Yan, Pasiwat prevailed over Reydon Romero of Team Kampilan and Kelly bundled out Larry Baluyan of New Blood Kickboxing. The event, which featured fighters from various backgrounds such as jiu-jitsu, boxing, taekwondo, judo, karate, aikido and muay thai, will be telecast on April 18 on RPN 9. The third qualifier, the last chance for the fighters to notch their second win and enter the main draw, is tentatively set in June. Others who hurdled their rivals in the eventwere Eric Tulis, James Solomon, Froilan Sarenas, Bernard of wushu, Edward Folayang, Sulpiano Laurio Jr., Angelo Lazarrito, Melchor Villasin and Duke Villanueva. Tulis of Pinnacle Boxing/Kickboxing beat Oliver Pagay and Solomon of Kickboxing defeated Ricard Lucena via stoppages, Sarenas downed Wendell of wrestling via armbar, Folayang, a SEAG gold medallist in wushu, clipped Robert Barranda via first round stoppage; Bernard booted out Chris Magallon via rear naked choke in round I, Laurio won over John Naval via second round stoppage, Lazarrito of Fight Club whipped Christian Virtudazo, Villasin thumped Jonar Lagasca via armbar in round I, and Villanueva of Sprawl MMA decisioned Neil Cartajena. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2006 21:51:24 -0400 From: nephalim1@netscape.net To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: RE: [Eskrima] SURFACE RUST ON SWORD/antiques/barong? Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Is it advisable to remove the surface rust? If you already spent that much, I wouldn't touch it yet. Sometimes removing blemishes will do more harm than good to it's overall value. IMO I would seek an expert appraisal and get advise about it's care. Unless I'm mistaken, barongs don't have finger guards. Imagine dropping that and still having the pin in your hand, probably need an open air dojo with lots of fox holes or something (also have to be good at the 100 yard dash).
