I met Robert , a stateside-raised martial artist, some dozen years ago. He had already created his system which he called ESKABODAAN (ES = eskrima, KA= karate, BO = boxing, DAAN = Tagalog for "Way). The FMA portion of his art was Serrada based, and when I met him, he was seeking to add Kombatan to his repetoire. Zoom forward a dozen years. He art is still named ESKABODAAN, but he had already assimilated into it, Kombatan, Jiu-Jitsu, and who knows what else. He moves like a panther, with grace, quickness and no apparent effort. Just how good is art? If his art evolved along with the person, I expect it to be very, very good. --Alex France's response when asked about GM Robert Castro and his art of Eskabodaan This seminar is open to all. While martial arts experience is always helpful, no experience is necessary for this seminar. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello all, I am currently traveling around central America and find that every migrating worker from Nicaragua up to Guatemala has a Machete either in his hand or strapped to his back. It is similar to carrying a pocket knife back in the states. A recent acquaintance of mine told me she works in an impoverished village where out of boredom young men get drunk and engage in contests with their machetes to see who can draw first blood. Sometimes its first blood, sometimes in a drunken state people aren't quite as controlled as one would like. Many of the young men are scarred on there hands and faces from engaging in such events. With the 10s of thousand of repetitions these people have with there blades in clearing fields and every day work it makes one wonder how well there motor skills are. I guess I look at it like a lumberjack coming after you with an Axe or a carpenters dueling with hammers. Coming from a Filipino martial arts background seeing all these bare machetes being carried around gives you food for thought...any comments.. --------------------------------- How low will we go?
