To me, most guys back home has owned and played with one at one time or another. Some of this Balisong are specially made so intricately and expensive. If you own one, treasure it closely as it could get loss unknowingly as had happened to mine. Jeez!! The "sanggot" which my buddy Master Jay (thanks btw) correctly referred to as "Kerambit" is one heck of a blade. Always sharpened for daily use. I saw this with someTuba gatherers - a rope belt with a home made wood scabbard unit housing two blades. Guess for replacement when one gets dull after cutting many of those hard and arm size coconut tubers while still up there on top of the coconut tree. Ingenious as it could be tideous climbing up and down them tall coconut trees many times collecting the Tuba. By their similar shape, use and hand action/operation,, the " sanggot and garab" maybe place in the category of "sickles". Whereas, the smaller blades "kayog or karit" use to harvest rice are "push knives" as there is some sort of a pushing action done so as to cut the rice stalks. Its' unique design serves its' purpose. I stand corrected and I don't know of english terms for these filipino blades either.. Walk out of there without using the ATM (it is an ATM, isn't it)? Invite the attacker to use the ATM first? Attack first with one or more of the 6 tactical knives we all carry? Or is there a clever martial-artsy move one could have used (I cannot immediately think of one)?
