The term closely identified with the Americans is Liberation, although the United States did indeed take its turn in colonizing the Philippines. Jay de Leon ==== Ray wrote: Interesting that the periods are Pre-Colonial, Colonial and Post-Colonial instead of Pre-Occupation and Occupation... === Interesting periods indeed in Philippine History and to add looking at what had transpired during these times. The Spaniards bringing good intentions in their voyages came first. Though lost liked the paradise they discovered then, slowly came in hordes, divide and conquer until eventually "Colonizing" the country plus stayed almost forever. Whereas, the Japanese don't know what their problem was, came, bombed, destroyed, and just "Occupied" the country but did not stay long. Reason,,God bless the US came and "Liberated " the country each time from these predicaments... Len Toledo, Department of Education Palaro Task Force head, said that acting Education Secretary Fe Hidalgo and Mayor Jessie Robredo of Naga City have already invited Mrs. Arroyo to personally open the 58th edition of the weeklong multisport event for high-school and elementary student-athletes. "It has been the tradition of the Palaro since 1948 to have the top executive of the land declaring the Games open," said Toledo Friday in the weekly Scoop Forum at the Kamayan Restaurant in Padre Faura, Malate. With a budget of P58 million from Malacañan, Toledo expressed confidence for the successful staging of the school meet, held for the third time in the city known for the miraculous Our Lady of Peñafrancia. Naga, also famous for its pili nuts, hosted the Palaro in 1997 and 2003. "Naga has the experience, and with the full support of President Arroyo plus our well-trained 800 technical officials, there is not doubt we can hold another successful meet," added Toledo. The DepEd has confirmed the attendance of close to 5,000 officials and athletes, who will dispute the titles in 17 sports disciplines—athletics, swimming, archery, boxing, badminton, baseball, softball, sepak takraw, football, tae kwon do, chess, table tennis, lawn tennis, gymnastics, sipa, volleyball and basketball. Arnis and dancesports will be contested in the meet for the first time as demonstration sports. Besides powerhouse NCR and Central Visayas, other regions considered favorites are 2004 champion Davao Regional Athletic Association, 2000 champion Western Visayas, 1996 titlist Ilocos and Southern Tagalog. "A total of 17 regions including Cordillera and ARMM (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao), are participating. That's why we are expecting a very exciting competition," Toledo stressed. In basketball, the University of Santo Tomas Tigers Cubs won the regional eliminations for NCR in the absence of defending champion San Beda High School, which has moved to Taytay, Rizal, and is now part of Region IV-B (CALABARZON). Toledo also said the gold medalists in the 2006 Palaro will represent the country in the 2006 Asian School Sports Federation Games in India late this year. "The DepEd has forged an agreement with the Philippine Sports Commission giving to the Palaro winners the chance to represent the country as additional incentives," Toledo noted. --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 20:38:52 -0700 (PDT) From: ed garcia Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Pilipino Pre-Colonial History To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Old timers used to say: Panahon ni Lapu-lapu Panahon ng mga Kastila Peacetime (American occupation) Panahon ng mga Hapon Liberation Panahon ng mga huk Martial law (or nung si macoy pa presidente) panahon ni Cory Panahon ni Ramos yada yada yada --- Ray wrote: > Interesting that the periods are Pre-Colonial, > Colonial and Post-Colonial > instead of Pre-Occupation and Occupation... > > Ray Terry > rterry@idiom.com > _______________________________________________ > Eskrima mailing list, 2300 members > Eskrima@martialartsresource.net > Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and Martial Arts > Resource > Standard disclaimers apply > http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
