To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Did you want to get one? Two thoughts on this: (1) I remember reading an article about AIDS in Africa about the correlation of infection and circumcision. It seems that the chance of infection was greater if the man was uncircumcized than circumcized (I think that meant the uncircumsized man was more liable to get AIDS from an infected woman), assuming unprotected sex. (2) This is wild. I read that one cosmetic surgery available now is for a circumcized guy to get a new foreskin. I assume this is a case of a guy getting circumcized as a baby or as a young kid, and then he decides in adulthood he prefers being uncircumcized, or wants to experience it. You won't believe what other cosmetic surgery is now available. Did I hear somebody say, back to arnis? Jay de Leon www.filipinomartialartsmuseum.com ASC wrote: :), I just found this out recently. The practice here in Sydney is discouraged. Apparently hardly any doctors would provide such service. To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Coming from another culture that practices circumcision (although at 8 days old), I'll share a memory, not of my own, but of the time I learned what it was. I was 6 years old. My parents took me to Jerusalem, and we were visiting a museum. As a 6 year old boy, I was drawn to a display case that had 2 beautiful knives in it. The blades were long and thin - about 1/2" wide, about 7" long (though in my memory they seem much longer). The tag said "Ritual Circumcision Knives". I could read, and I knew what "ritual" was, and I knew what "knives" were. "Dad, what's circum.. .kircumsis... cir... what's this word?" Let me tell you that if you've never had a foreskin (well, technically you had one for 8 days but don't remember it), and hadn't been around people who had, and you're 6 year's old, what you hear in the explanation sounds a lot like, "they cut the end off..." My legs buckled. They had to carry me out of the museum.
