What a totally preposterous story! I'm surprised the Copper in the picture, Inspector Mac McGarry, could keep a straight face. I had to look at the date to make sure it wasn't April 1st or something. I was especially amazed by the spokesman for Gloucester Police's comments, including: "We are very glad it is off the streets..." like the damn thing ever was 'on the streets'! It's not the kind of thing you could slip in your back pocket! Unless you're going to tell me that they also arrested the Klingon who was carrying it at the time? This whole idea of yet another 'amnesty' is that the criminals, or those with criminal intent, won't be coming forward to hand their blades in any case. And imposing further restrictions, or bans, on knives isn't the answer either. The handgun ban brought in after Dunblane and Hungerford did nothing to take illegal guns off our streets. The only people affected were law-abiding sporting shooters. There are now far more guns out there, and far more gun-related crime, since the handgun ban and other restrictions were introduced. It isn't the knives that are the problem, it's the mentality of the people behind them. The sort of people who'll hit someone with whatever they can lay their hands on. The so-called knife amnesty is simply another political stunt, carried out to make it look like they (the politicians and Police) are doing something about knife-related crime. If you lay a knife on the ground, it is incapable of jumping up and slashing or stabbing someone... in the same way that a house-brick can't club the brains out of someone all on its own. A knife is a tool, pure and simple. Boy Scouts used to be allowed to carry them. The Butcher cuts his meat, and the Farmer and Gardener use their knives for a wide range of tasks as do many other people. Yes, I'm sure that the Klingon weapon could probably 'take someone's head off', in the same way that an axe, hedging bill, or some other such tool, could also inflict similar damage assuming that someone is crazy or evil enough to do it. I wonder what sort of ban the politicians can think of, and what sort of amnesty the Police can think of, that would have prevented a 23-year-old man from raping and murdering that 89-year-old woman recently? Perhaps we should try out that Klingon weapon on him! I still haven't watched it yet but know the outcome. I espescially like that Firefox has a plugin to download some of these videos in FLC format and I can convert to DIVX AVI using ffmpeg so I can watch on my Palm Zire 71! --- Ray wrote: > A fairly short fight, Matt dominates big time... > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIfkLqwUUAE > > Ray Terry > rterry@idiom.com > _______________________________________________ > Eskrima mailing list, 2300 members > Eskrima@martialartsresource.net > Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and Martial Arts > Resource > Standard disclaimers apply > http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima > http://www.urbanskinz.com Custom Apparel, Housewares and more, all designed by Mohawk Artist Peter Kwiter Greci http://kwiter.webhop.org My Home on the Web Podcast is at http://www.mobilepodcast.org/kwiter __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
