At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. He was an officer in the Signal Corps, cited for bravery during the battle. He, like many WWII vets, never talked about The War. It was just something that he had done, that he had to do. Pretty amazing and sobering stuff, and good to remember. JK Ray wrote: Enjoy the holiday, but don't overlook the reason for it... >From www.usmemorialday.org. What do y'all attribute this to? In what way has it evolved? Blessings, Rez "Standing guard on old, forgotten roads, that no one travels anymore." I'm sure it would not be as extreme, or as popular. I think personally it would be nice (as in cool) for women to fight for real instead of what you see on the street and in the WWE. I'd rather see if women could fight without using teeth and nail, without the bikinis and the mudpits. I don't know about you guys but as a woman it is disconcerting when I see girls not wanting to push themselves to try to go toe to toe with the male fighters. Yes, the male fighters would tend to win, but I"m sure with right training some women could kick some butt. It bugs me that I've received alot of negative responce on other forums about a Women's UFC. I want others opinions. What do you think would be and make a good women version of the UFC? However, perhaps I'm lost in my journey to find a UFC for women. In the fighting world where women will only meet in a pool of jello in slick themselves up with some oil and show off their bodies in the skimpy outfits. Not that anything wrong with watching, but I mean really... Wouldn't you rather see a REAL fight, with real skill instead of just some extreme m sex appeal? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ One week left to travel virtually with MSN Search World Tour --__--__-- Message: 6 Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 20:42:19 +0000 From: iPat To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] UFC for Women Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net www.fightergirls.com would be a good refernce On 5/29/06, Amcreva Drogovah wrote: > I was wondering if there is anything going on in the UFC about a women's > version. -- Pat Davies www.amag.org.uk --__--__-- Message: 7 Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 22:55:25 +0100 From: iPat To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] UFC for Women Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net The difficulty with the womens circuit right now is the matching of opponents, compatible training partners and no doubt the culture. Debbie Purcell is an excellent MMA athlete, her pad work is great but her fights are not that great. That may be more to do with availability of opponents. In the UK Rosi Sexton is a better prospect imho. But whether she can get the necessary matching to develop as a fighter i dont know. I hope so. Erik Paulson had a student called Lisa circa 1999 that i briefly trained with who featured in some of his videos that was a champion too. On the Thai circuit its hard to get the girls matched at times. Its changing slowly and i think the growth of women competing in BJJ means that MMA will benefit. But the low level shows that fighters first come in contact with the sport need to raise their standards and that may be the biggest hurdle. FMA wise, do the dog brother Gatherings or any other full contact groups have women coming through? -- Pat Davies www.amag.org.uk --__--__-- Message: 8 Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 20:00:19 -0600 From: "Jared Dame" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] UFC for Women Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I think a UFC womens division would be very successful, but I don't think that anyone would want to have women going against men. I do agree though that a professional fighting octagon arena that would pit women against other women in the same weight class would make sense. I know many girls at my Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai clubs that would start training to compete, and many would be able to pull some serious wins out with what they already know.
