He will be fighting a guy named Mark Smith from Little Rock. 20 years old, no fight record, 5'10" 170 lbs, Kick Boxer with BJJ experience. He has less than one year training. he trains at the West Little Rock Kick Boxing and BJJ school with Mark Hamolton. The instructor has a Pro record in Kick Boxing and is a 1st Dan in BJJ. My fighter is Ryan Miller, 26 years old. He will cut to 170lbs from 176lbs. He is 5'9" tall. He has been training about 8 months. He is doing very good on the ground in our Jujitsu classes. He rolls with mostly heavy weights 6'1" 215 lbs with the same amount of training, plus I roll with him every class. His stand-up is mostly Traditional Moo Duk Kwan, however I had three pro fights about 10 years ago, so I have tried to share with him what I learned from that experience. I have been padding him up and letting the 3rd dans beat on him. To get him used to getting hit. As his trainer I am 5th Dan with US Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk, 1st Dan in Jujitsu, had three full contact fights My question is does anyone have any suggestions about training methods for this fight. He is a former semi-pro baseball player so he is a natural athlete. His Cardio is good for the 3 rounds. He will not gas. Thoughts JC Get more from the Web. The company also runs the Champion Martial Arts studio in Carmel. The lawsuit doesn't target the Carmel location, but the state attorney general's office is reviewing that location's membership offers because of the South Bend allegations, Call 6 for Help's Rafael Sanchez reported Thursday. The South Bend families say they were offered free, 30-day trial memberships. They allege that when they decided to cancel their contract, the company did not allow the cancellation. The attorney general's consumer protection division said state law requires this kind of company to allow customers three days to cancel a contract. The company did not allow this, the division said. One South Bend family said they decided to cancel within three days of signing their contract with the company, but the business would not provide a refund until the family got their credit card company involved, Sanchez reported. An attorney for the martial arts company, Diana Bauer, said she hadn't seen the lawsuit Thursday. She said she would talk to Call 6 about the allegations next week. --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2006 14:43:35 -0700 (PDT) From: Daniel Arola Subject: Re: [Eskrima] MMA Shreveport La August 19th To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Gladewater SooBahkDo wrote: My question is does anyone have any suggestions about training methods for this fight. We trained with Master Kenneth Edwards for just over 6 months and learnt nothing...a few stances, a few punches, no forms at all...we also found out that we didn't learn traditional Eagle Claw kung fu until Black sash, a fact that was not mentioned at the sales meeting. We also found out that we were learning Praying Mantis kung fu (they still use the terminology of the old school)... So we asked him to cancel our contracts...he refused to do so...So myself and my wife did a little legal research...here is what we found... In the State of California, in the health and martial arts schools...no contract can exceed three years and no more than $1000...we signed up for three year black belt leadership program at the total cost of $7200...he broke the law but does not really care... Our contracts have not been cancelled however our bank informed us to simply close down the account and open a new one...no more money for Master Edwards...Oh we were also paying $400 a month for training in an Eagle Claw school that really isn't an Eagle Claw school...just a Praying Mantis school pretending to be one... And gradually remove the pads until he's able to take powerful shots unpadded because you can bet the Muay Thai trained fighter will be firing heavy guns and if your fighter hasn't gotten used to taking those without the padding he'll be at instant disadvantage. He says "this large influx of people carrying 'tactical folders' didn't know how to use them." Nicholas Nobella, 25, took a four-hour class at the Bakersfield shop. Several months later, he admitted to police that he stuck his tactical knife into stripper Edward Pedrosa, 24, during a melee that broke out when men attending a bachelor party raided a bawdy bash for the bride-to-be, says Kern County, Calif., Deputy District Attorney Matt Magner. Mr. Pedrosa died. Mr. Nobella's lawyer says his client was acting in self-defense. Mr. Janes says Mr. Nobella isn't typical of the students at his knife classes." Thanks for posting the WSJ article Ray. I felt compelled to respond. Lest we provide fodder for the NRA: "Guns (in this case knives) don't kill people, people kill people". I am very close to friends of the Pedrosa family & familiar with the unfortunate events that transpired. Omiited from the article was that Mr. Nobella was the groom-to- be & allegedly took affront to the idea that his fiance would allow a male stripper at her bachelorette party. Also assaulted was Mr. Pedrosa's father Marty, who accompanied his son, but could not provide protection from Nobella & his several friends who allegedly interrupted the party. His knife slash wound required a hospital stay & has yet to return to work. The young Mr. Pedrosa had just recently returned from military duty in Iraq. As a supplement to his primary job, he recently made the decision to dance so to provide extra income for his recently planned wedding (later this year) & recent purchase of a new home. He leaves behind his fiance and their infant child. On another note: Summer is vacation time (it's Christmas in August) & many of us are looking forward to Sensei Robert Reish's camp to be held in a few weeks in the Sequoia Mountains of Tulare County, CA. The 5 day heat wave of 110 deg. plus weather has finally succumed & hopefully will sustain long enough to once again welcome Ajarn Chai Sirisute, Guro Dan Inosanto (Happy 70th Birthday as of Monday!), and several other highly regarded FMA, Jujitsu, Judo, Pentjak Silat, Kun Tao, Apache/Comanche and Lua instructors from throughout the continental U.S. & Hawaii. Alas, to always be the perpetual student...bliss. Again, best regards to all.
