Old style was more 'rough and ready' so to speak, and another method, known as 'Panache' also includes Savate kicking along with using the cane. Not only are "...Savate techniques... fast. [With] Very quick kicks and punches..." but Savateurs also fight with shoes on too, which changes the game somewhat.
