If you tell me what we do is not a street fight without parties who will intervene to keep things from going too far, I agree. I do submit though, if boxing is a fight, if kickboxing is a fight, if Muay Thai is a fight (and all of these have towels, tapouts and stopping when there is a TKO or KO) then what we do is a fight too. I have yet to hear anyone say "What did you think of the sparring on the UFC last night?" How you about you? I've seen fights as well as been in some in which the dominator stops on clear signs of submission. If you've seen or been involved with fights in which the fight continues past knockout, please tell the story. > that the other guy has some respect for you. This is where fights can go and sometimes do. I think it is that possibility that makes the fight real, although I don't think a real fight can really be defined the amount of damage that is done. There are also plenty of incidents in which others step in. Personally, I use the word sparring for martial arts matches, although it is totally unfair to use the same word for padded-up point matches with full contact mixed martial arts, including weapons fighting as in Dog Brothers matches. - Gints Klimanis C-Baltic Dog --__--__-- Message: 3 From: "Michael Koblic" To: "Eskrima digest" Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2006 18:53:10 -0700 Subject: [Eskrima] Putting the boot in Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net "Ah Cherry Reds...remember getting in trouble at school for wearing those...back in the 1970/80's...the good old days....when i lived in UK. Why is Doc Martins so expensive in Los Angeles?" Also, you cannot not get the original, proper, real-deal Cherry Reds. When I needed them (to fit into a group only, of course) I could not afford them. When I could afford them, I could not find them. The current Doc Martin products just are not "authentic" as I see them. Now, an interesting point: Can you spar with Cherry Reds or would that be considered fighting? Or would such sparring come under the category of "clogging" or "shin kicking"? Furthermore, going down the memory lane, would you believe than in 1969-71 you could bring a 4-inch folder to school without getting into trouble? Looking back, I was years ahead of my time as I converted it to a one-hand opener by the simple expedient of putting a piece of tape on the spine where the current knives have a stud. Of course, I drew it in anger and used it to cut up my lunch only... Those were indeed the good old days.
