This film was made in 2004 implying that organized football violence is still alive and well. Sans the Cherry Reds (Adidas seemed to be preferred). Pat??? Warning: Those born outside the 3-mile limit of Whitechapel turn on the subtitles :-) Michael Koblic, Campbell River, BC --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 14:45:13 +0100 From: iPat To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] The Football Factory Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net hee hee hee The film is a result of a trilogy by John King (FF, Headhunters and England Away) who also has some other excellent books out. Based on the Chelsea hooligan firm the film has a big toungue in cheek story where in the final face off with Millwall you see many reknown hooligans. The book is a real account but names and dates have been changed. The clothing is an interesting charachteristic of the scene and one that has held my interest. The clothing scene at the football didnt necessarily mean that you were a hooligan but did seperate you from the face painted shirt wearing fan. The Doc Martin fad went at the end of the 70's replaced by white trainers. Fashion plays an important part of the scene some of which is famous with the stone island jacket or jumper, along with labels Burberry, Lacoste and Googlygook. The 'casual' would go below the police radar who were still looking for the stereotyped thug. This gets discussed in many books most of which are made up but there are a few worthy of attention. I saw it in London and Aberdeen and as a doorman had to deal with some reknown faces who became good friends. However, before any romantic illusions are generated there are some seriously nasty people with nasty views involved. To stand and go toe to toe against another firm (gang) when seriously outnumbered is an addictive adrenaline buzz and in an increasingly nannied state its still popular. Green St is another such film that has the hobbit in it. im not a fan of many of the films or books as they glorify and promote negative social standards. However, until people buy books on how brave a man is by being a sound familly member and doing right by his kids i guess they will be popular. Rockport replaced the Doc. I got it a while ago and it makes interesting reading! A chaotic period of history, not too well know to me, at least, from an eyewitnesses view. Light and easy reading, lively language. It's in a form of short stories relating different incidents from Mindanao. I also liked the photobook about the FMA Festival, I haven't seen too many photos of the event before, so it was interesting to see what went on. I recommend both! - Marko >-----Original Message----- >From: ext jay de leon [mailto:jakkdawg@yahoo.com] >Sent: 29. elokuuta 2006 3.03 >To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net >Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Eskrima] Thanks for the Mindanao Articles > >Hi Rudy : > > The book is now available at the online store at > www.filipinomartialartsmuseum.com , with a > bonus book of my recent trip to the Philippines. > > Jay > >RUDY CARRILLO wrote: > Mr. De Leon > >I agree with Jay, The articles are very interesting to read. >Let me know when the book comes out > >Thanx > >Rudy Carrillo >_______________________________________________ >Eskrima mailing list, 2300 members >Eskrima@martialartsresource.net >Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource >Standard disclaimers apply >http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima >_______________________________________________ >Eskrima mailing list, 2300 members >Eskrima@martialartsresource.net >Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry and Martial Arts Resource >Standard disclaimers apply >http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima --__--__-- Message: 6 From: buz_ed_alias@mac.com Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2006 15:41:45 -0400 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Re: In Search of Consistency Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net While following the "when's a fight a fight" thread a tune has been running through my head: "You say poe-tay-toe and I say pah-tah-toe, you say toe-may-toe and I say tah-mah-toe. . . ." Let's call the whole thing off, say I. Regardless of how you parse it, a serious set of stones is required to don light protective gear and have someone come at you in a committed manner. Quibbling over what to call it when the boundaries are pushed should not minimize the intestinal fortitude required to push those boundaries. The English teachers among us can employ adjectives to more fully define what sort of fight they are speaking of, while hopefully allowing those who explore the edge to report back on what they've learned with a minimum of nitpicking and oratorical overhead.
