First of all, I have to comment you, thank you for helping other FMA get some exposure even though is not yiur particular system. I am proud to be consider one of your family, thank you. Anyway, In regards of the "Sparring" and Tournament that now common in FMA, padded tournament and and Sparring, give many benifits, but also give a bad-misconception of the FMA is all about. Good Benifits are: Good Excersise for Cardio(breathing in continues movement in few seconds), Speeds, footwork and Controlled fighting. Attract more student to join the class or learn Filipino martial arts, Good exposure for FMA as sports Martial Arts. I think.. I would probably loss if I join one of this Padded Tournament. I respect this "Sport Tournament" I dont know, if i can ever finished the third round.. Just to go with "Head tohead" with 20 years old fighter?? No way.. But hey, in Un-paddedc, they would know their place on this one..` Bad-habit and misconception: Developed un-effective fighting arts,(NO direction of strikes, just whatever) then Recieving many hits is okay, (NO! get hit is not okay!), Produce many pony Champion. Attracts more student that think holding a stick is enough to be a black belt, and winning one fully padded Tournament can call them Stickfighting Champion (Champion? No their not! He is a padded Champion) their very good using that pads. "Hello! smell the burn stick for a change. You want to be FMA for real, then one way only to be one. Learn the hard way, you dont need to kill someone to be the real deal. But atleast practice your art close to what you though it was, effective. Practice a lot of sparring, oh I forgot "Un-padded sparring", even the stick is padded, but dont pad or cover up the target, if you want to know how it feel to get hit. Then work around it, try NOT to get hit for a change. If you are practicing disarm, How to be effective in disarming, then practice with the person that not allowing you to get the disarm you want, its not that easy, if you could disarm him that is good start. Techniques is work only if you make it work, there is no bad and good techniques, I believed all techniques is good, and its only become bad if used in wrong time and place. But their are a lot of bad "misconception of how to used them". Example Witik, paltik, or loblik, this is effective striking tecknique, but if you used it on the "Padded" body, you loss the effectivenes of it, before you even hit the opponent. Try to used the same techniques to "Bare" body this will wake you up, and the more you get beat by this techniques is add up eventuallly it will get you down. Here to all of those practitioner that dont agree with me, fine, do what you want to do. I am not telling you tochange, I am hoping you will see the light after seeing few padded combatant, and few fight for real. Hopefully you still see the light. then you can used "Sumbrada" shade among yourselt to a very good effective techniques. I hope I will get in trouble with this one.. BTW, I want to let you know one of the Luneta GM (????) and I, have one round Fight, that I challenge him during my visit July 2006. I gave him many techniques to think, one of them how to ovoid my hit, he only throw one strike, and he recieved my four stike after that. Without other GM there, I would gave him to get even more, but hey I believed he is bad mounting me.. Luneta FMA I am going back on July 2007(Garimot Philippine Visit) I will get him back.. ( I have the match on Tape to prove it).. Stop bad mouthing me.. This is the first time, I talk about this, I want them to know that I already know that their bad mouthing me.. Cant wait to see them on July 2007.. (Sorry for the other GM, I have to do this to give this GM a chance to get up and prove himself that I just got lucky) NOT! Back from long Sleep, Gat Puno Abon "Garimot" Baet Founder/Chief Fighter Garimot Arnis Training Group International There are others I forgot to put on the list (because it was just off the top of my head), like Gints Klimanis, who created the "Gentlemen's Fight Club" and Reginald Burford, a world champion in some tournament(s) in the Philippines 1988-1991. Many years ago, Reginald was holding a sparring seminar and I was in the mood for some action, so I went over. He wouldn't let me participate because I didn't bring any armor. Not knowing it was domination style, I didn't think armor was needed. Gints, who attended some or most of my first "Spotlight on the Masters" seminar series, offered to lend me his, but Reginald wouldn't allow it (for good reason, I'm sure.). So I just watched... and saw the darndest thing... In their full armor, one fighter was throwing a bunch of "witiks" to his opponent's midsection while totally ignoring 3 (three!) full-power San Miguel strikes to his neck, one after the other! In real life, the guy's head should have been on the ground, between his legs! Right then and there, I was totally turned off to domination style fighting. It just didn't make sense.... I'm not so dead-set against it anymore, however. It really depends on the fighters --to maintain their art during a match and have respect for the weapon even though they may be fully armored. Part of it says that tournament results can be found on the "worldfma.com": [snip] I was present at ALL of the tournaments. In fact, I have ALL tournament results. These results will soon be available in the official WFMAA website at http://www.Worldfma.com . [snip] Anyways, getting back to the rumors. I can only tell you that THERE WAS NOT ONE GROUP (school, organization, or team) THAT TOTALLY DOMINATED THE TOURNAMENTS. IN FACT, THERE WAS NOT ONE GROUP THAT WON ALL DIVISIONS. Again, you will be able to confirm these in the website soon. I'm not disclosing who the sender was at this point since I don't know if that sender's OK with it. Anyhow, regardless of how PTK actually did in those tournaments, that site could be another source where you can find some if not all tournament results, in case you're interested.
