He's a good teacher and a Mataas Na Guru under Wm McGrath and also does silat under Uncle Bill. Andy -- wrote: Mabuhay All.. A good friend and student , Simon McDonough, is moving back to the Boston area this week. While living in Miami, Fl he's studied under the Garimot FMA system and developed a love for FMA in general. With his wife making final preparations, his stuff packed in his car, he came by to say goodbye this morning and get one last training session in before he got on the road. I couldn't help but feel pride in his dedication to me and to his training. We worked out hard, knowing it would be our last time for a good while. At the conclusion of the session, I advised him to continue his training not only with his Garimot brothers in the northeast but to expand his knowledge by seeking out other FMA schools. He looked at me in shock as if I were turning him away because he was leaving. "I'd never do that" he replied. I said " While we take great pride in our system no one has a handle on the truth. Don' t forget our Gat Puno studied with several grandmasters himself". He finally understood the meaning of what I was saying and promised to continue his training. "Thank you for today's workout and the lesson. You gave me something special today", he said. It was then that I realized I had passed on a lesson given to me by Gat Puno Abon. Teachers and students. It truly is an amazing bond. Simon is the first person I ever trained. I learned from him as well. I also learned a lot about myself and my knowlege of my system. I promised him I would see if our training brothers on the Digest could recommend some training facilities in the Boston area and I'd forward the info to him. If anyone has any recommendations for a gym or training facility conducive to martial arts training I would highly appreciate it. Info on FMA schools in the Boston area is also welcomed.
