I had no idea you were training in the martial arts much less FMA. For those who don't know, dinji brown is a very popular and sought after DJ and music producer . Your modesty does you credit. I've listened to your music productions for some time now and dude you are really good!! As a matter of fact, Osulande was just here in Miami playing with DHM (friends of mine) at the club Pawnshop a week or so ago. Really good music that night. Not sure when you travels will bring you back to Miami but you've got an open invitation to come train in FMA and enjoy Miami night life. Take care and train hard!! My name is Djinji Brown and Im a DJ/ Producer recollector, JKD and FMA student. I have to locate the album among my many pieces of wax lying around ( that may take a day or so), when I find it, I can " burn" a copy for YOU and send it to you. It would be my pleasure. The Cd wont have the art work, but if u have any students that can do photoshop graphics perhaps they can scan the DVD cover for you. If I come across a another copy in my travels I'll grab it like a lop-sao, then hold it with a sabre grip..:-) take care and good luck in your search...let me know if you want my help. While I enjoy the emergence of new stick fighting competitions and will help spread the word, the current rules for this event in no way qualify for a "full contact" description, especially the absence of abusive language. What is a stick fighting competition in which the complete body padding and restrictions below are relaxed ? Maximum Contact ? Ultimate Contact ? Anyway, this looks like a fun tournament in which fighters spar to exhaustion. Cool. http://www.esnips.com/doc/0514cb4e-ae63-4b7a-bd0c-92817621bf93/PIA-General-Rules.doc There will No · Punching, Kicking, Kneeing and use of elbow. · Grappling or Wrestling. · Trusting · Throwing / Foot sweeps · Strike to the back when opponent is not facing. · Locking and Holding · Use of foul or abusive language. · Spitting. Also, please be aware that the mat is black so wearing black can present difficult contrast issues for the camera. If your want to wear your system's colors and the shirt is black, we can work with it, but other things being equal please minimize the black shirts. Also we suggest arriving a bit earlier than usual because of various matters pertaining to Spike's shoot of the day. I'm told that some of Spike's "big dogs" are coming out from NYC to check out what we're about. Sy Sun.Star THE 1st Yasay Sable Standardized Rank Promotions Examinations are tentatively scheduled this coming November 26, 2006 in Bago City. The test will be administered by Chief Instructor Ferdinand Emmanuel "Bobot" Y. Gayoles under the supervision of 3rd Generation Grand Patriarch Paterno "Pater" V. Yasay. The most verifiable researched information traces Yasay Sable to GM Pater's grandfather, GM Paterno Yasay, who hailed from Passi, Panay Island, and who passed the art to his son, GM Guillermo "Guimoy" Yasay. GM Guimoy Yasay then passed on the art to his sons GMs Guillermo Yasay Jr. and Paterno "Pater" V. Yasay. The art can be as old as a century, perhaps starting sometime in 1900. This would make Yasay Sable the oldest style of Filipino Martial Art (FMA) in Bago City, and perhaps in Negros Occidental, with verifiable roots in modern times. In comparison, other prominent and effective styles such as Lapu-Lapu Viñas Arnis (Bacolod City), Oido de Caburata (Murcia), Original Filipino Tapado (Bago City), and Wild Judo (Bayawan City) were founded in 1932, 1936/1937), 1960, and 1969 in that order. Master Gayoles, who is a farmer and academic teacher by profession, is currently working to revive and establish Yasay Sable as a mainstream system of Negrense Arnis under the guidance of his teacher and uncle GM Pater Yasay. Yasay Sable was informally introduced in Bacolod City by Master Gayoles in 2002 at the University of St. La Salle (USLS). Since then he had developed and refined over the years an academically acceptable methodology and system of teaching Yasay Sable. Master Gayoles used his academic teaching credentials and MBA studies to derive a progressive and systematic syllabus of the art. Master Gayoles first implemented the systemized Yasay Sable on February 7, 2005 when he formally introduced it in Bacolod at the USLS in an effort to develop the 5th generation of sabledors. Yasay Sable became the first Negrense style/system of Arnis to be featured in the front cover of the Philippines' one and only and longest running martial arts publication, Rapid Journal, when the article "Yasay Sable: Deceptively Fast and Deadly Blade" by Conceptual Martial Arts Society (CMAS), Inc. Founder James U. Sy Jr. was published in its Vol. 10 No. 2 4th quarter issue. The examinations will focus on the trademark techniques and principles of Yasay Sable as well as in the candidates' ability to pass on the system to the next generation. The preliminaries of the examinations were already held during the 1st Yasay Sable Inter-Group Sparring Session last September 10, 2006 in Bago City, which was participated in by 11 members of the Bago and Bacolod groups. Sparring is a standard in Yasay Sable practice because its philosophy is skill can best be developed when it is put to the test via simulation of a real fight, which is without body armor and no time limits. But because of the characteristics of the slashing and thrusting techniques used in Yasay Sable, the sticks used are thinner than the average arnis stick and the hold used is the standard saber grip. --__--__-- Message: 8 Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2006 20:52:07 -0800 (PST) From: Daniel Arola To: damag.inc@gmail.com Subject: [Eskrima] Houston Stick Fighting Association's 1st combative meet on 11/26/2006(Sunday) Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Houston Stick Fighting Association's 1st combative meet on 11/26/2006(Sunday) There is this newly formed Martial Arts Weapons group called the Houston Stick Fighting Association. I had just moved back to Houston after 20 months in Fayetteville, North Carolina and it looked like I moved back at the right time. I am very happy to see the interest in martial arts weapons combat(FMA in particular) continue to grow and I am grateful for Johnathan Bolton to have started this association. Johnathan is also a student under Tim Mousel who is also my instructor in JKD Concepts, Thai boxing, Combat Grappling and Filipino Kali.
