Other than someone getting their panties wet about its "ability" to cut human flesh because of the wave (i.e. don't tell me about its use for "knife fighting"), can anybody tell me the practical uses of the Spyderco Kris? What is the tool application of this blade? I mean kerambuts are great tools for opening boxes and as many LEOs/EMTs/Firemen etc., found out safely cutting people out of seatbelts in carwrecks. Bowie knives are great skinners and survival knives. Tontos make for damn effective fishing knives. The kris has major cultural, cerimonial, social and mojo implications in certain cultures, but we're talking about a mass produced knife from a major manufacturer. I will bet that at least 99.9% of all FMA participants today have never had a "real world stick fighting expeience" where there is no padding, no judges, no friends, just sticks and ultimately no action. I think the writer is correct with this one. Where I train now, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali with Guro William Shultz in Ri, we use very little padding and spar/fight with just hand protection or of everyone agrees none. We train extremely hard but have had very few injuries other than stick bruises and visitors seem to be shocked that we dont where the suits. We use Triplette Rapier and swords and spar with just fencing masks and I think it helps us make the connection of how important the footwork is to keep us safe as it sucks to stand there and take hits to give hits. Makes it much more serious. We fight hard with each other but also respect each other and don't look to hurt each other. Doesn't matter that it has little real-world use - other than sticking in someone perhaps, and I can think of better designs for that purpose anyway. Thanks for referring me, Ray. Cory, things at work have died down for the time being, and I'm back teaching again (Ron has kept the class going for me the past few months, though, so no one got left behind due to my absence). Ron has also made some connections with some martial artists here in town you'd be very interested in, so if you'd like to get together again, shoot me an E-mail. Calling me at home is kind of unpredictable for now, what with my work schedule, but I check my E-mail at least every other day.
