Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I saw the PacMan beat Morales and it was exciting and I've seen the behind the scenes thing about him having a kickboxing background. I am not saying that I'm an expert, but alot of Manny's punching combos look a little bit familiar when my Guru taught me empty hand techniques of what he knew of Panantukan and his favorite Silat. I'm not an advocate of any particular martial art being the best, but I like to watch boxing more than I watch MMA now -I favor Pride over UFC. Now for a question I would like to ask. Does anyone who watches MMA enjoy watching it over boxing over a "ground and pound" bout? Don't get me wrong, if I have to I'll try my best to grapple, as my guru said 9 times out of 10 a real fight ends up on the ground. As a real world self defense I don't look down on BJJ or Akido or Judo because I know they are extremely useful, but from an entertainment point of view and pay $40-$50 bucks to see two guys rolling around for 3:30 minutes in a 5 min. round and the referee doesn't stand them up to fight or see two guys attempting to box and not land a punch is boring. Another question is if there are any advocates of MMA taking over Boxing with the current rules of not standing up fighters sooner does anyone believe that MMA will indeed take over boxing with lackluster bouts? Yes I know that GSP beat Hughes and everyone loved, but what about Sylvia's match with alot of people believing it wasn't exciting unlike Manny vs. Anyone. Does this style also employ male and >female triangular footwork? >Ray Terry Well I am only a novice to balintawak but I think I can safely say that the footwork is 99% linear, there are no triangular stepping patterns, only rarely any side stepping, what we like to do is close the gap as quickly as possibly and get in close, thats where balintawak is happiest, close up. We aren't sure that is actually the case, but we -can- say with a fairly high level of confidence that 9.9 out of 10 real fights start standing up. Figure that the goal of an arresting officer is a handcuffed perp, and that figure makes sense. Not sure it reflects reality of most civilian altercations, though many fights do end up on the ground. BJJ folks sure do like to cite that stat, though. JK Ray wrote: > ... as my guru said 9 > times out of 10 a real fight ends up on the ground.
