Yes, he was one of the very best. Hitting your own stick and hitting the floor is done for a variety of reasons. It can be used to work on your rhythm, it can serve as a distraction to the opponent, you can flick dirt in the eye/face of your opponent, you can use it to help reverse the direction of your stick, and so on... I've used it in unpadded full-contact sparring. Depending on your opponent, it can work very well. Over $350 was raised through your generous donations. I need one contributor's mailing address and would appreciate TL from Germany emailing me the information. I tried contacting you through your work email but I received an auto-reply stating you will be out of the office until January 2, 2007. Also, KB from PA, your DVD is on the way. Thanks. Respectfully, Al Sardinas Student of the Garimot System of Arnis. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Emanuel Hart Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 17:39:03 +0100 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Re: Inayan Dirll Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Within Inayan Sinawali there are multiple reasons for doing movements other then hitting sticks together. The underline factor is building coordination for sure. Some of the different drills will build the ability to attack or defend the lower strikes as well as work changing hight to build leg strength. Most of the twirling that is involved is more for building hand strength and weapon control. However depending on the drill there are some feints incorporated that use a twirling motion. In your post you mentioned "hitting his own stick", I believe (with out seeing exactly what you saw) that you are talking about an "assisted twirl" within a four count sinawali or a six count with a twirl. The "assisted twirl" is used as one option of twirling in the four count to build a beginners' ability to twirl. In the six count this twirl is used as a feint for a low stab (angle 5) and twirl to high hit (angle 1). I hope this help you to understand a bit better what you saw. I wish you all the best in your training. Ray ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Julia.Jenkins Date: Dec 13, 2006 9:10 AM Subject: RE: ABC TELEVISION To: martialartsresource@gmail.com Greetings ~ My name is Julia Jenkins and I am a casting producer for ABC's hit reality show 'Wife Swap.' We are currently casting for our third season and I am looking for families that live and breathe the martial arts. We cast everywhere from Maine to California, and this would bring a great dynamic to the show. If you are unfamiliar with the show, Wife Swap is a fascinating story of what happens when two married couples see themselves and their spouses in a whole new light. Time Magazine calls Wife Swap "a riveting examination of family values." The New York Post says, "It should be called 'Life Swap' because it's not just the wives who learn something here. It's the families." The premise of Wife Swap is simple: for six days, two wives from two different families with very different values exchange husbands, children and lives (but not bedrooms) to discover what it's like to live a different woman's life. Here at 'Wife Swap' we look for a two-parent home with at least one child between the ages of 6 and 17 living at home fulltime. We are currently casting for our third season, so don't miss out on this amazing experience! Families that appear on the show receive $20,000 as a thank you. And if you refer a family that appears on the show you would receive $1000. If you have a family and you are interested in applying for the show, or if you know of any great families that you would like to refer, please EMAIL: julia.jenkins@rdfusa.com. Please provide details in your email!! Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you! *Julia Jenkins | Casting * *RDF USA| **440 9th Avenue**| **11th Floor**| **New York**|** NY 10001 **tel. + 1 212 404 1429 | fax. + 1 212 404 1423 julia.jenkins@rdfusa.com | www.rdfusa.com* --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2006: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
