Bob is my main teacher and whilst I try to be objective in all matters, not just fighting, I am also likely to be potentially biased, if not just due to respect, then due to information received. After a brief Google search it appears that in 1978 Bob did Eskrima with Jay Dobrin, (and possibly earlier with others) but that this may well be predated by Rene Latosa in Germany. I mean no disrespect to Guru Jay de Leon or any FMA family affiliated with Latosa, this was my error, if anyone's. There may be some German people on the list who could give some clarification on Bob or FMA's history in Germany. I apologise in advance for the semantics, but I did say "pretty much considered the father...", as I try to avoid 'ultimate truths' where MA is involved. The following are not ultimate truths, they are my beliefs: He fought with, and captained the first gaijin team to beat the Japanese at traditional karate, in Tokyo, in 1974. (Although not a team player, a possible exception: Mas Oyama). He has been a full instructor under Guru I for many years. His student, Neil McLeod won World Escrima champion in 1996 and 1997, in Manilla ( I don't know the organisation/ruling body so I imagine EVERYONE on the list will contest this in some way). He has trained quite a bit in the PI and sparred with (among others) GM Illustrissimo. Why am I going on about this? "No such thing as bad publicity" ;) Strike from the void Julian I am biased ****************************** This e-mail and any attachments are confidential and may be subject to legal privilege. I have no affiliation with Rene Latosa. I was simply looking at things from an objective historical point of view. Depending on how you define or set the criteria for "father of FMA in Europe," Bob Breen could very well be the father of FMA in Europe. Several others may have predated his FMA activities, but he could well have had the greatest influence in spreading FMA in Europe (even including the Brits, lol?). Thanks for the further clarification, and congratulations on Mr. Breen's new book. Continued success to both of you. Jay de Leon www.tipunan.com "Gilmour, Julian" wrote: Hi all Apologies...
