Professor talked at great length to Guru Dan about writing a book on Filipino Martial arts, and that Guru Dan had the best opportunity to be acepted, because he was riding high on the Ledgend of Bruce Lee.........Problem is Guru Dan writes the book and doesn't even mention Remy!!!! What gives with that.......Now I am no worshipor of Gm Presas he and I fought like cats and Dogs and while he was a great Eskrimado, as a man he had many flaws as do many of us.....But credit is due where it is deserved......I over the years talked to several Filipinos that were at that meeting so i am pretty darn sure about my facts...at any rate while I beleive GGM Cabalis contributed greatly and maybe even one of the first to open the art up here in the U.S I would say if GGM Cabalis is the Father of Eskrima in the U.S GM Presas would have be the Step Father.......Think about it he spread the art like wildfire and everyone especially many of the other GM's benefited from it...and the amazing thing is GM Presas did it without following a International Star!!! So I would say give credit where it is due!!!! On another note concerning GGM Cabalis, even though I never trained with him, what I respect most about him is he never watered it down, the caliber of his students is TOP SHELF!!! Truely a Phenominal man, and those of you who were lucky enough to train with him, should thank God you got that opportunity!! The competition is fast and they get penalized if they stall which made for even better action. A few bugs here and there for a new show but nothing that isn't going to get worked out over the process. I think it is definitely worth checking out and should be here to stay. They are coming back to Austin in January. To: Subject: [Eskrima] FMA Practitioner needs your help Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net SFFD Desperate Search for Bone Marrow Donor Fellow FMA Practitioners, This was sent to me please send this to your family and friends to help save a fellow warrior's son. This is not some internet hoax. If you can assist we can save a life. Respectfully, Marc Lawrence IFD Firefighter South Bay To Fellow Firefighters, A member of the San Francisco Fire Department has recently been told that his 2 1/2 year old son is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. Little Harrison Leonardo was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) approximately nine months ago. After enduring many months of chemotherapy his cancer went into remission in August of this year. A couple of days before Thanksgiving the family was told that his cancer had returned and that he would need a bone marrow transplant in order to survive. One of the challenges that the family is facing is finding a "miracle-match" for Harrison who is of Filipino/Caucasian ethnic background. To date, a search of the Bone Marrow Donor Database has not found a match for Harrison. The San Francisco Fire Department has been working with the family to help them in their desperate search for a donor. That being said, we are contacting those of you that also work in Public Safety in hopes that you will spread the word to the members of your departments that Harrison needs your help. We are requesting that you contact the Asian American Donor Program (aadp.org) and schedule a Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive for your City Department. The Leonardo family is specifically in need of Filipino/Caucasian individuals to register. The marrow typing process is a simple "cheek swab" procedure. Even if those that register are not a match for Harrison, they may be a match for someone. And, if those that register are of minority descent, it is even more of a gift to the Donor Registry because so few minorities are currently registered. Please check www.HelpHarrison.com for updates on Harrison's fight for life and upcoming Donor Drives. Because of our diligent search campaign, the Asian American Donor Program is looking for volunteers to help at the various Donor Drives. You may contact the AADP at 1-800-59DONOR to volunteer! In fact there were so many active behind the scenes... People like Max Sarmiento that helped with the creation of the first open FMA school in the US (or at least the mainland). And Johnny Lacoste... When Max asked for permission to openly teach the FMAs, Johnny gave that permission and recommended Angel to be the instructor. Johnny was the head of the Stockton Filipino community, the largest Filipino community in the world outside the of RP, and Max needed/wanted his approval to openly teach the FMAs. And Al Concepcion who, as I mentioned a couple days ago, was the first to sponsor many FMA masters on trips to visit and share their art in the US. This worked great until he brought in one particular instructor from the RP that overstayed his visa and then disappeared. This instructor reappeared later, but by that time Al was no longer permitted by the government to sponsor any more instructors into the US.
