There is no public or private education system that does not advocate note taking, as an adjunct to your class time. Your martial arts practice should be no different. I have reams of notes going back into the late 70's on classes, workouts, self evaluations, seminars, videos, sparring sessions etc. etc. It will give you a point of reference to come back to and compare your improvements(or not) that you are achieving. Back in 96, I met Manong Inosanto at a seminar and he was showing copies of Bruce Lee's original notes, he noticed I was writing down in a notebook, and said to me that is one of the best ways to remember where you have come from over the years. So if you are not taking notes, why not? Gumagalang Guro Steve L. www.Bujinkandojo.net --__--__-- Message: 2 From: DenverAMA@aol.com Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2007 10:23:36 EDT Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Note Taking Movie 300 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Agreed Guro Steve~ Guro Inosanto said the same thing this weekend... regarding notes in LA. He does take time out to make a point of the value of note taking, even now for many reasons. One of the biggies is what I felt you describe. Yes, he has Bruce Lee's original notes and personal experiences as well as his own that he shares. He made it clear, he could hand out much to us (his instructors) but that we would benefit more if we wrote them and not miss the good things that come with that. I do notice that after all these years I can write (very fast) and understand some groupings now of things. Whereas before and in the beginning, I couldn't even read my own writing half the time and no most of the time and chuckled then and now at what a mess it can be to try and keep up. Best to all of you who can retain and write clean notes, and train at rapid fire! That has never been my gift. I cherish my notes, and the chapters they represent of my training and life. I strongly recommend my students to keep a notebook. Btw... any thoughts on 300? It is great to see FMA "expressions" in so many movies and this one as the latest! Even if it was expressed in Spartan and Persian timeline. Way to go Guros Damon, Chad and the writer Kurt. I have some thoughts on 300, but I am quite sure they are obvious! Ha ha. I will give you a hint however: what is better than one hot---not gay-- warrior male? :-) answer below Happy Monday and week to all~ Heather Heather MonDee, Lead Instructor CCA & Denver-Metro AMA _www.denverama.com_ (http://www.denverama.com/) 303.758.9383 answer: 300 +

This was also mentioned by someone else. But I also include room in the outline for the students to take notes, with a heading of "Notes:" so that they'll understand the purpose of the extra room on the outline pages.
