To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Good post, Master Jorge. As you know, I am also from Pangasinan, and Manaoag is only about an hour's drive from my own hometown of Binmaley. Manaoag is known for two things--its miraculous Virgin Mary and its fierce arnisadors. I will check on our friend Ama Guro Salinas' arnis project the next time I go to the Philippines. You bring out an interesting development in arnis in the Phil., the fact that "Filipino-American" (in the case of Ama Guro Bernardo Salinas, Filipino-Canadian) arnisadors are helping in the revival of arnis in the Phil. I have seen this personally with efforts by the likes of Rey Galang, Topher Ricketts, Arnold Noche, my own cousin GM Nes Fernandez and others. Arnis history coming full cycle? It was fun going thru recent ED posts till then but the Tacurong note caught my fancy. If Tacurong indeed is into FMA, no wonder most of the women Sayaw competitors and medal winners in the last East Asian Games are from there, so they say - right?? Wouldn't it be nice that Tacurong's success in FMA would serve as model and other cities in the philippines to follow suit?? Hope so... However it was done in Tacurong, I guess there are other ways as well to stir FMA interest anywhere in the philippines. Allow me then to mention what my good friend, Ama Guro Bernardo Salinas - Sinkatan Arnis Estrella together with some of his noble canadians students did for his hometown Manaoag, Pangasinan. Together, they offered free "Canadian Version" lessons of his Original Family Arnis System and how it was done the old ways then by his Grandfather and teacher. Throngs came and believably a success. It was an effort beyond call and due to proper channeling and used of the right people like a lawyer friend, the mayor, town and/or barangay officials, and the police force. He is set to go back home again this May/07 to follow up his work and all awaits for his return. My best to you friend!!
