I suggest watch the movie "The Body Guard" with Kevin Costner, he portray a good fiction type Body Guards"best of the best." In other hand, I was the Body Guard of our Town Mayor of Paete for two years, I took over the job when my fathers got sick. I was not close to the portrayed bodyguard in Kevin Costner, but tell you what. If I have a choice I dont want to be in their shoes again, Its hard to explain the feeling of protecting someone while your life is the first target before they can get to their prospected person. When you become that person, "The set of mind change" every single around you is subject to watch very carefully, I dont know who will attack me or the Mayor. I face numerous close Gun point, Knife, machete(Bolo), Sling Arrow (Pana) etc. I dont trust anyone my only my "partner". I always anticipate that someone will attack me and the Mayor. I dont recommend this job to anyone but I understand someone has to do the job. Specially in the Philippines, when times of election like this year. I dont want to re-call the fear that I was when I first took over the job "Body Guard of the Mayor of our town. I dont know what to think and do, since i never been in the situation before. I have seen my father control three guys at the same time putting them in "Pretzels" type locks to each other and still can fight to the fourth person. Seems like a movie scene, but the only difference is this is for real. I was thinking to my self I am never in my life will able to do what he does. But when I was attack by multiple opponent, I realized one thing "Eskrima" training help to be aware to what is going on around you in time of that kind of situation, my reflection and footwork help me a lots. If I can do it, I believe all of you "Eskrimador" can do it. But go back to the Subject of Body Guarding, The other one that I like is "Clint Eastwood movie" The Line of Fire. Its a good detail job discription of the Body Guard but this time he si protecting the President. just my two cent, you will see there that he dont trust even he comrads.. I will be in Chicago this weekend for two days Seminar, and I will teaching and introducing the "Garimot Sling Blade" Knife Fighting that formulated by my Uncle Leocadio Baet alyas "Kumander Sabo" of Hukbalahap, and the "Garimot Pugung" (Mini Rope techniques) Buno weapon. I would like to share this rare weapon to you all. Garimot Sling Baldes is utilized manipulation similar to a "nunchuck" type strike throw and Kerambit switch grip type techniques and more, While Garimot Pugung utilizes for disarming, trappings, knotting, control opponent like "Posas" or handcuff. I've known Cliff since '87 and trained with him at his house in LA. He is the best in the business. I've been in the show business world since '81, and my family has been around show business since the fifties. There are alot of goons acting as security for major entertainers, and unfortunately bad things can happen. Cliff can walk the walk, talk the talk, and teach the teachers. He is an incredible instructor and a great human being. --Tom Furman www.physicalstrategies.blogspot.com ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone.
