Armor was unheard of at the time. I have read and studied the book for more than 40 years. His book is about bladed weapons - not sticks although they used wooden weapons to demonstrate the techniques - obviously for safety. There is no other book like it. Body mechanics, timing, distancing, etc, are all embedded in the techniques. These variables are not directly stated but can be discerned only after many correct repetitions of the movements. One will have to execute the movements many times over to understand the variables involved in fighting with the simultaneous use of a long and a short bladed weapon. I will give it a 100. Best. I have not read his book so I cannot really give an opinion. To those who have read the book, kindly give us your opinion. Let's say on a scale of 1 to 100, how many points would you award the entire book with respect to overall credibility? Thanks in advance. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. --__--__-- Message: 2 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Philippine horsewhip (Re: Eskrima digest, Vol 14 #174 - 15 msgs) Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2007 19:04:35 -0400 From: nephalim1@aim.com Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello Po, Thanks for the plug, hehe. Right now I am looking for a safer way of making them. Although the stiffening material is safe when it's cured it is not so good with its cumulative exposure while in an uncured(liquid) state . Best Regards, Jose (Dong) Capitulo. -----Original Message----- From: Pananandta@aol.com To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Sent: Fri, 1 Jun 2007 11:08 am Subject: [Eskrima] Philippine horsewhip (Re: Eskrima digest, Vol 14 #174 - 15 msgs) Hi James (Campbell), Before you can learn to use the Philippine horsewhip obviously, you will need to get one. You are in luck. You do not have to get one from the Philippines. Jose (Dong) has a post in the same issue of ED. His email is _nephalim@aim.com_ (mailto:nephalim@aim.com) . He makes Philippine horsewhips (in Long Island, New York!) that are as good if not better than those made in the Philippines. Best. On page 14 there is a column by one Jang Bangjun called "Unlimited Wushu: What's in a Name?" It turns out that we Americans are incorrectly using the name Kung Fu/Gong Fu and that Wu Shu, a 1,500 year old term, is the correct term for traditional, modern, self-defense or competition. Naturally he suggests "unifying" Wu shu's terminology. Maybe I should send him this past month's EDs to persuade him of the sisyphean nature of the task :-D Yip!!!
