We worked on various phases of Pekiti-Tirsia single and double knife techniques, but for 07 we added something new. During the morning session each day we assembled knives from blade blanks and handle materials and custom made kydex sheaths for the finished knives. After this we had a knife sharpening session and everyone took home the knife they made. You can view some sample pictures at: www.pekiti.com Just click the Gallery tab. It was good to hear from him. He had been traveling for several months out of the country. Being one of the earliest eskrima students in Stockton, he not only studied under Angel Cabales but also under Johnny LaCoste. Al indicated that Johnny did not call his art Kali. He just called it eskrima and/or kuntao silat. Later when others came to him to learn he also picked up the term kali and began to use that name also. So it seems we cannot place the early use of kali with LaCoste. He may have picked it up later, but early on he did not use the name kali to describe his art.
