MarK Harrel, It will take more than that word to push my button, but thank you.. Kapatid Alex, did you went home to see the Paete Full Contact Tournament this year? I am just waiting from the DVD of the events. Salamat, Kapatid Jay salamat din by the way GT Leo Gaje is supposed to come backk here in Florida August 11 may be and he promised to see me and I ivite him to have dinner with us, he enjoy our cooking. Ray, There is "NO" National Arnis Tournament specially full contact in the Philippines. On 1970, when we recieved the invitation from Visaya, 10 of Arnisadores from Paete, went to check them out but is already wearing protective gear then, so they decide not to fight, since we are not used to protectice gear, actually is qround 1975 or 78 the invitational of the NARAPHIL (Natianal Arnis Federation of the Philippines). The Full Contact Tournament is only Provincial and Local Town invitation Full-Contact Tournaments. As of now the Laguna Province only hosting Full-contact Arnis tournamet, and majority of it now is Financially supported by our Garimot Arnis Training Group Intewrnational. Instead for them looking for the Sponsors, we offered our generosity to sponsored all Tournaments as long its the Traditional Full Contact. The money that we collect form my Seminar and the membership of our member is goes directly to help Lagunas Eskrimadores to continues the tradition (The money also includes helping the old Eskrimadores from their medical needs) . But they are still short of financial support. But with our helps now the Tradition of Eskirma continues and the old Maestros is also recieving few bucks for their medicines and foods. Mark Harrel, you are right, we have more than to worried more than Martial Arts. This thing I worried abut, I am thinking of have "Eskrima Funds", to nurture the old Eskrimadores, and continues to teach the future Eskrimadors (Youngsters) and I can't do it by my self without the help of my student and Kapatid (brothers) in the arts. Every year some of you recieved a soliciting letter from me and I am forever appreciate your contribution, you are part of helping this poor Eskrimadores, sick kids, and continues the Traditional Full Contact Tournament. Everone know I am Chef by profession, and everytime I throws lot of food left overs hurts me more than recieiving a strike from Rattan sticks, becaused I know a lot people in the world are getting hungry, or dying from hunger and here I am throwing all of this left over foods, tons of poultry, startches, fuit and vegetable. So I called Food Bank, and I started boxed all leftovers from our catered and be pick up by them, I alwasy said if I can send them to the Philippines to help my people, I would be feel Better inside. So I totally agreed with you that more to worry more than Martial Arts. Growing up I was money motivated kids, tell me you will pay me to throw the garbage,I will do it no question ask. I joined Singing Competition, Poetry Competition, Marathon, Boxing, Arm Wrestling, Arnis Full Contact Tournament for money, at the end of the day I am getting paid to my hard work. Somehow, whatever I do I came out winner, I got the money it might not get the First Prize I always got a Prize money. Coming home giving the money to help my family is my main goal at that time, I am not interested to thropy or flaque or medal, all I want is the Prize money. Now I have different Goal, bigger than before to reach out and help as many people as I can, weather to point them out in the right direction weather is in Martial arts or Culinary, and ultimately become responsible to others.. To bad they were stopped. I can imagine that having the likes of Canete, Lema, Mena, Navarro, etc. in unpadded full-contact fights when they were in their prime (50 + or -) was the way to have matches more than just those at the local level. Then there is the story of how Tatang wouldn't participate since they weren't using real swords. Truth is he was beyond his prime (75 or so) by the time these events were being held. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Certainly, the "Kali thread" was huge, one of those that comes right on and makes one ponder's and say - what/who/when/really/get out/for crying out loud/BS/no way/whatever/etc ?. Brought out ED's best participation and enthusiasm ever.. All things aside and taken, copy Kapatid Abon sentiments that the thread is kind of ebbing out. Also, glad that all is well and will be quite in the front for a while until the fire is lite up again as we often see things in ED. All those up-front exhilarating exhanged of smart presentations/debates/counter points/jokes/frustrations/innuendos/challenges/etc, were exhausting healthy chit-chats and discussions. As expected due to syntax, reasoning, key board faults, miscue, etc, things do stray away at times, and like blood brothers we mend and patch things up. As such, kudos to good mature senses and attitude. While at this point, there's still no concrete "Kali-wanagan" (light) to the discord's jest, more are still to come for those who cares and love FMA. Last, my take on the Kali thread. I'm really thrilled and commend those special dedicated professional historians/writers/FMA peers from back home who toiled and care to afford us new perspectives, insights, directions, and thoughts perhaps to unravel one sensitive single point regards our beloved ART. It is a mind boggling endeavor and whose end results are there for us to take or not. Looking forward to that day of enlightenment and acceptance. And hey,,Kapatid Abon musta na!! How about a cooking and ice-carving challenge using a chain saw next. Like to see this rather than a stick fight. Least, we get to hang out, eat your tagalog pork and chicken adobo and tinola. Man,, it was good eating together with GM E. Presas, Lazo, Taboada, and Pambuan. See you and Al one of these days in Florida again. Regards !! Led by Aussie Peter Shannon, the group of international fighters will be gracing the Grand Master Nick Eliazar Invitational Cup today at the Elizabeth Mall Activity Center. "They are here basically to train in preparation for the world championships, which will be held here in Cebu," said Doce Pares top honcho Gerald Caņete. Caņete said the foreigners will be looking around to see what kind of fighters they will be up against next year and, as early as now, they are already preparing for it. "Filipino fighters are highly looked up to by the rest of the world," Caņete added. Shannon heads the Bob Jones Corporation, the biggest martial arts school in Australia and New Zealand. Also in town is Arnulfo 'Dong' Cuesta, a Filipino master, who is based in New York. Cuesta also supervises a martial art school in the US and is currently the dean of instructors of the Doce Pares. Aside from them, there are other stick fighters from United Kingdom, Norway, USA, Spain and Hungary, who will compete in exhibition matches as sidelight to today's competition. These fighters are currently training at the Doce Pares headquarters in Sto. Niņo Village in Banilad. Today's event is the third installment of a series of competitions leading up to the world championships in mid 2008. There will be sparring and form competitions in different weight and age categories. Local fighters will be facing a tough challenge from out-of-towners including the team from Dumaguete City that will be sending a large number of fighters. After this competition, Doce Pares has more fights lined up to raise the level of awareness for the sport and for the world championships, which is expected to gather thousands of participants from the more than 30 country-members of Doce Pares. --__--__-- Message: 10 From: Sonny Padilla To: Subject: RE: [Eskrima] Re: Filipino Kicking arts Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2007 20:54:10 -0200 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello, Ama Maestro Vic Ferrer (Sikaran) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada have and is selling his DVD's. Personally, I felt that they focused entirely too much on the technique and not the history and diversity of the FMAs. I was disappointed to see nothing in the way of defensive tactics or counters being employed during the fight at the end, even by the Filipino champ. Gotta admit though, Boyo can take a beating!
