To: Subject: [Eskrima] Thoughts on Preserving Your Teacher's Legacy Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Recently I had several conversations with friends of mine about the preservation of one's teacher fighting system legacy. This stemmed from a conversation about how my teacher and I published a book on our system. I had one friend who is Master in FMA said "he wished that he had student that wanted to preserve his legacy like I had for my teacher". I was fortunate, many years ago I had a teacher tell me to bring a notebook to class and pen. He told the class "they needed to write down his lesson as his words & lessons were valuable". This led me to always keep a log of my training with simple sketches of what we did each time we were together. This serves as a memory jogger on any portion of my teacher fighting system. I found out that my teacher had done the same with his grandfathers teaching. I sat down a typed out my notes and then one day added pictures. I have been amazed at the number of people who go to class; do not keep notes and when you ask them about the details they do not remember. My challenge to those of you, whom are willing, is to preserve your teacher's legacy and write it down, take pictures and video tape when you can. Someday you will look back and thank yourself. Respectfully, Guro Marc Lawrence PAKAMUT-Torrance --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Sat, 13 Oct 2007 13:28:12 -0700 (PDT) From: jay de leon To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Palawan dance troupe Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Yesterday, for a change of pace, I attended a Filipino cultural event, a dance by the Sining Dance Troupe from the Palawan State University from Palawan, Phil. "Sining" is a Tagalog word meaning "art."
