Starting ones own style usually means"I don't have the patience or understanding with what I am doing to research it and make it work so I am going to invent my own stuff." Bruce Lee being a possible exception and Master Tatsuo Shimabuku another. Some of the techniques in my art trace back to 1790 when losing meant dying not placing second. This guy is ok but can we all not do as well just by training harder and faster in what we do? Like my master said, "If it works someone somewhere is doing it." I have yet to find that to be untrue. --- Steve Burwen wrote: > Andrew, > > I've been around a number of arts for 30-40 years > and have never heard of the guy, but that doesn't > mean anything, since the field is so huge now. Why not go for the attackers vital areas first? If he has the knife in front you can work a defense. If he reaches behind him for ANY reason crush his throat. Don't try to grapple a larger guy or a faster one. Hurt them first BADLY! Move as soon as they move no matter WHAT THEIR MOVE IS! If you wait you are cut or dead. Period. --- Jye nigma wrote: > hapkido: > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4qqV7WP4T4&feature=related > > presser testing: > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWQfgwuOAxo&feature=related > > vee-arnis-jutsu: > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6orsJ6W2fvU&feature=related > > > > > --------------------------------- > Never miss a thing. I know that as a soldier who has been to Iraq and Afghanistan and Cuba I can personally vouch for the effectiveness of escrima and any style can be true self defense by Capt.Chris's definition and all you have to do is train for a style to work in a self defense scenario. Training is the only way to make you're style effective for any situation even if you're style is the touted special defeat anyone self defense system you still have to train to be effective.
