Keep it simple. The most important criteria in my school is that the women must be able to make the technique work on my largest students. All men are bigger and stronger than they are on the average. I justify this to the men by reminding them that if they are attacked it is more likely to be by someone bigger and stronger also.If they aren't look for the weapon or their friends. We do as much size imbalance training as possible. You get a feel for your own abilities that way and it is a great confidence booster. --- Ollie Batts wrote: > For me, effective self-defence is about avoidance > initially and simplicity - > K.I.S.S. = Keep In Safe Situations (wherever > possible) and, if you have no > other option but to fight back, Keep It Simple > Stupid. > > One of the simplest ways to get out of a wrist grab > (depending on distance) > is to stomp the attacker's knee hard. Agreed. For those attempting to run a commercially successful dojo/dojang it is difficult to push full contact training. It is easier and far more common to push the "our techniques are too dangerous" approach. This is why imho you tend to see more realistic training in the backyard and garage groups. I also do believe in lopsided training I will always use the biggest guy in the class to try my techniques on because if it works on him I know it is a good technique. I also realize you will never get into a fight on the street wearing a Martial Arts uniform of any kind so I do what I call reality training and train in my street clothes that way I know what it feels like before I fight in the streets I know the restrictions of my clothing and am better prepared to fight for real. I still believe in Martial Arts Etiquecy but I am really enjoying the benefits of the reality at the same time. What's up bro? To answer the question posed by someone on the list about what I consider "full contact". Full contact to me means all targets are fair game. Full contact also means full power (although I do confess to kicking lighter to the groin....I mean c'mon.....good training partners are a rare bunch!). Full contact to me means, you are fighting for a submission in some form ( a joint lock, a verbal submission, choke, immobilization. etc...). I hate very wordy e-mails so, I'm going to wrap this up. Full contact is important in the quest for truth. Safety trumps all things. It is possible to practice full contact safely. After all......I'm still alive and even have all my pieces and parts. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
