I'm in Cebu now meeting up with the Cebuano eskrimadores. By next week my groupmates will be in Panay for documentation and research of indigenous martial arts and culture there. Hope to meet up with you too when you get here this year. Maybe we can talk more about your Putakti system. I'm interested in documenting it too as one of the Ilonggo systems. James U. While on the subject of world class, Doce Pares turned a year older last Saturday. Sun Star Cebu The group, which has become synonymous to the indigenous Filipino Martial Art of Eskrima, celebrated the occasion via a humble ceremony at the Cacoy Doce Pares World Federation headquarters along C. Padilla St. Beaming with pride during the occasion, which was highlighted by the installation of its set of officers for 2008, was Doce Pares Eskrima and Eskrido Grand Master Ciriaco "Cacoy" Caņete. Noy Cacoy was only 12 when Doce Pares was formed in 1932 by some members and instructors of the much-older Labangon Fencing Club, among them his siblings. Now 88, he is a living witness to the growth of Doce Pares as a fledgling martial arts group into a worldwide phenomenon. He remains the highest-ranked practitioner of Doce Pares Eskrima and Eskrido, which he founded by integrating the theories and applications of corto mano (close-range) Eskrima with certain elements of the throwing and grappling arts. He is still actively giving seminars on Doce Pares Eskrima, Eskrido and Pangamot here and abroad. Noy Cacoy is currently in the final stages of publishing another book – one that goes back to the very fundamentals of Doce Pares Eskrima. It is his fourth book. The first was Doce Pares Eskrima in 1988, Pangamot in 2001 and Eskrido in 2004. A fifth book, The Fastest Olisi Fighter, is a biography written by Jun Caņizares in 1999. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
