The goal was to eliminate the weapon altogether. Literally, this has been taken to mean that the empty hands of the practicioner would be able to use empty hands sucessfully against any weapon. Philosophically, I have taken this to be simply the ability to defeat my opponents before the first blow is struck. Very Sun-Tsu, I know, but it does seem to work. If they are convinced that they have nothing to gain by fighting, for whatever reason, then I have already "won" before the fight begins. Sometimes the "No-sword" cuts deeper and faster. www.eskrimacustoms.com Fine hand-crafted hardwood bastons and training knives --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2008 13:46:13 -0800 From: Eskrima-FMA To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] NIIT Arnis Invitational Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net NIIT 2008 Arnis Invitational Championships By Nars Padilla Sun.Star Baguio A CAST of 100 arnisadores from the Cordillera region will showcase their wares today in the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) Invitational championships billed at the city's historical Malcolm Square. Suffice it to say, that I am gladdened that arnis an original pre-Spanish martial arts in the country is gaining popularity and practitioners as a sports discipline. Arnis as a sport is "Pilipinong Pilipino Talaga" like Sikaran. Happily, arnis has been recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and has now its own National Sport Association (NSA). Unfortunately, on the other side of the coin, Sikaran is still striving and aiming with difficulty to be recognized officially by the POC as a major sport in the country's roster. The Sikaran leadership including yours truly is working tooth and nail to realize the inclusion of Sikaran as an NSA. We did it in Arnis! Personally, I don't see any logical or technical reason why Sikaran will not be admitted in the POC family. Back in the NIIT arnis bore. Sportsman Vladimir Cayabas, NIIT administrator and tournament organizer said the theme of the sportsfest is "Nurturing the Spirit of Synergism Thru Sports." The arnisadores in the war zone are from the Salaknib Martial Arts System from Bontoc, Mountain Province, Ifugao Province, tuba National High School annex from Benguet, YMCA Baguio, Pines City national high School, AMA College Baguio, ACLC Baguio, BETI College, University of Baguio, Baguio City National High School, SLU Laboratory High School, Philippine martial Arts Crusaders Club and host NIIT. Of course, championship trophies and medals plus certificates of participation will be up for grabs. At least three local business establishments are supporting the special event as minor sponsors, namely, Paliz' Zata Restaurant in Porta Vaga, Inkmate Refilling Station at Center Mall and Mercantile Insurance Co. located at Kisad Road. We are hoping that more business aggrupations, civic clubs or individuals care and share in our local sports development programs. It needs badly a bolster shot in the arm! --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
