To train in BONG MABIL, you have to demonstrate proficiency first in BOTAKHAN. Training methods: You don't need much. For BOTAKHAN, you need an open space. And a dog. For BONG MABIL, you need a....bigger dog. Incidentally, one of the biggest benefits of training in BOTAKHAN and BONG MABIL is guaranteed weight loss, from running from the dog ;-) I can offer 12-lesson programs if anyone's interested ;-) speed and weight loss, how about that? ;-) Crash courses also possible. 6 lesson crash course - 2 dogs. 3 lesson crash course - 3 dogs. He is also the only one who publicly teaches Kung Fu in Iloilo (there are others, of course, who just teach within their immediate family or clan). Are you from Tibiao? GP Abon,,,,greetings Kapatid !! First off, my hats off and salutation to you for that Chef Instructor job at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary College. Way to go !! ED is proud of your accomplishments indeed. BTW, am one of the lucky few that had tasted and saw GP Abon in the kitchen and his food twice in separate occassions at his best friend and kabayan residence - Ama Guro Raffy Pambuan. He too is Head Chef of Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. Both are also superb "Ice Sculptor" as well. I was there when they carved using a portable saw life size images of GM Ernesto Presas and GM Bobby Taboada in ice. What a spectacle act during the World Sokeship Council MA Hall of Fame event. FMA was very well represented that nite.. Anyways,,as always I like it when GP Abon speaks out what he 'see's and his thoughts on some of ED's FMA hot topics , i.e. this "Mcdojo Thread". His views and perspectives are words of wisdom to me that are well thought of, direct to the point, and carries some truth as well. He views things as it should be: give critiques but also build up on both the negative and positive. Bad or not, give the guy credit for trying and practicing our art and last, communicate if at all possible !! Regards other FMA street MA "humor " brought about,, gather it was a welcome break for the topic at hand before it got a bit too nagging and long again. At best, some learning and personal views came out and it was great. Guys (Jay, Maurice, Jun, Abon, etc. ) thanks for the witty pinoy street MA . Truth though, these made-up systems have been used and proven effective self defense tactics. I swear !! OK,,back to more brain storming- great ideas anyone??. How about "Tapado" - interested?? Aawwright!! But if you thought that you would never be able to get hold of a coach who could teach you those fabulous moves and tactics, here is some news for you. Arnis, a Filipino system of martial arts, is taking the city by storm. A great self-defence system that is practised with sticks, it also happens to be one of the best ways to lose calories and reach new levels of fitness. Ravi Lalwani, who has taught this form of martial arts to many in Mumbai says, "Bruce Lee (the late actor and martial arts exponent) was the one who made fighting with sticks a popular form. The sticks used in Arnis are two inches thick and about 28 inches in length." And it's not just common people but even choreographer Sandip Soparrkar and model Jesse Randhawa who are followers of this martial art. Melwin Joseph, instructor to the celebrities says, "One can burn about 350 to 400 calories per hour while doing Arnis. It is quite an aggressive form of a workout. For the convenience of the celebrities, I teach Arnis indoors. I also conduct special outdoor classes. I play music to keep the gusto going. This also helps them synchronise their moves," reveals Melwin. Sandip says, "Arnis is a part of the training in the armed forces. It is a great workout as it equips you with self-defence techniques and helps you shape up. It is very energising too." Jesse adds, "As you are working with both the sticks simultaneously, Arnis also improves your co-ordination skills. It improves the body balance and after a few classes you can actually experience an improvement in flexibility and the posture of your body." But instructor Ravi has a point to make. "This is one technique that should be learned by girls as it is all about self-defence and also improves the reflexes. But unfortunately not many girls come forward to learn Arnis," he rues even as he hopes that the trend will change. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2008: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
