Please allow me to point out that we offer a hickory walking stick made to our criteria at: http://dogbrothers.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=122 To give you a sense of the size of the stick, the man modelling the stick in the picture is 6'2" and 225 pounds. The stick is long enough for taller people and of course shorter people can trim it to the desired length. The ball handle design works very nicely on rough terrain as well as even. Of course the stick can be swung with the ball serving as a mace, but most people seem to gravitate to having the ball projecting from the bottom of the fist where it serves not only as a nasty punyo and secure anti-slip device, but it also functions as a counterweight that facilitates tremendous dexterity and tip speed. The Adventure continues, Crafty Dog --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "Marc Denny" To: Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2008 17:37:17 -0700 Subject: [Eskrima] "Pumping Iron" meets "Tao of the Dog Brothers" Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Woof All: We are making a movie. The concept will be a "Pumping Iron" sort of documentary about the Dog Brothers. Where PI culminated in the big contest in South Africa that pitted Arnold against Lou Ferrigno, for us the basic story arc is the story of the Dog Brothers from our founding with three days of fights in May of 1988 to three days of fights 20 years later in early April 2008 (i.e. a couple of weeks ago). Normally to make a movie one lines up the money, the distribution deal etc first. Of necessity this involves surrendering considerable amounts of control. This we were not willing to do, so we are doing things differently. Due to the rapid advances in technology which lower the costs of making a documentary considerably and due to a seriously foolish decision on my part to finance the movie, we are making the movie first, then we will find the distribution deal-- but this will enable us to make the movie we want to make. The Producer/Director is Ron "Night Owl" Gabriel. Not only is Ron a Filipino and an eskrimador, but he has been working with me on Dog Brother Martial Arts DVDs for several years now and is greatly responsible for the increased quality in terms of production and post production values over these past years in what we put out. This background and experience make him the perfect man for the mission. He understands the Art and where it came from, and he knows and understands us and what we are about. And he has the chops to reify it all. As it always does, the Adventure continues, Crafty Dog PS: By the way, for fans of the PI movie, there is a 25th anniversary DVD about it that includes many interesting extras, including interviews with the people featured in it 25 years before. The pyschological dimension that made the movie a surprise success is continued. --__--__-- Message: 3 Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2008 22:47:24 -0600 From: "Gordon Walker" To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] 40 years too! Until then Leo would hang around Angel's Stockton Academy and teach a little largo mano here and there on the side. It wasn't until Angel and Leo "had words" that Leo went off on his own and focused on creating his new system.
