If you wanna know more about me, I'm 6 foot 4 inches tall and weigh about 300lbs. I played football and wrestling in high school. I joined the U.S. Navy after high school. I went on a depoyment with the marines to subic bay in 2000. Later I was medically separated under honorable conditions. My lower back is messed up alittle bit. I had an ACL/Miniscus reconstruction done at the army tripler hospital. I was at home for 2 years, couldn't get a job. So I went to Manila, got married and went to P.U.P. I didn't get to finish though. While I was there I studied Mauy Thai for 3-4 months. It seemed to easy and it aggravated my knee. I ran into Jojo Latorre and joined the Arjumano club. Judo and Jiujitsu didn't seem to bad. I just had alittle of a hard time with arnis. Jojo always said I was too slow. I think so to. I have strength, power, and endurance. But not enough speed. I think I understand the principle of 2 birds with one stone. I can do some basic arnis. But I get lost with advanced technique. I'd like to practice here in Ohio. But I don't know of any schools here. I remember meeting a guy several years ago from Mansfield, OH. I don't know the guy per se. We met at a seminar and he seemed like a good guy. He was a student of Cass Magda. Bear in mind that I met him several years ago (at least 5) - my memory may be faulty or he may have moved or quit teaching. I don't know. Unfortunately, I also don't remember his name. I wish I could be of more help but if you're willing to drive an hour or so Steve Hacht is a top notch instructor. Hence, dependent on the mental and physical capacity of the learning subject like memory, comprehension, environmental circumstances, openness, adaptation, inherent talent, background, physique, flexibility, and many more. Since, Eskrima is both mental and physical the learning process ranges from simple route, habituation, conditioning to complex both consciously and instinctively. In the light that each man is uniquely created, individual differences is a big consideration even in the rate of the learning process. Nevertheless,  take this to heart. If some can learn and be proficient at it even at a glance, some in a single or few settings, some in weeks, some in months some in years... the bottom line is you're at it and you progress. Remember, the biggest room in this world is the room for improvement and learning is growth. Therefore, if you want to improve yourself and grow regardless of  skill level you are in right now... now is the time to move and improve yourself. Don't just sit around and mull about how long it would take you to learn.. the right time to start is now and you've a whole lifetime to learn it. Mastery is relative because learning is a continuous process. Hence, if you think you're already good thats your dead end 'coz the moment you stop growing you start dying. It is very important however, that the learning subject has a clear picture of what he/she wants to learn and what he/she wants be... The right teacher is just there if the student is ready and knows what he/she's looking for.. Have a great journey... my fellow students in the Eskrima of life!
