He told me that he learnt it from his instructor (Greg Henderson), and that he learnt it from one of the many people he trained with in the Philippines. The interesting thing is that the kata was apparently created by a coming together of a Kung fu master and Eskrima master. The kata has movements that come from Kung fu (footwork), and the stick work (hands) come from Eskrima. To me the kata is good because it contains the basic elements, just put into a series of movements. The foot work is the hardest to master. As I have been learning the kata for over a year, and still am fine tuning it. As for the name, Sensei believes it may have come from a name of a province/town/city in the Philippines. This could be wrong as he wasn't totally sure. peace, Scott _________________________________________________________________ --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2008 09:03:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Mathew Turner To: Eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] (no subject) Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Does anyone know of any schools or classes available for eskrima/kali in the Kansas City area? Also, what exactly is the differene between kali and eskrima if there really is any? I'll be teaching two classes per day (2 1/2 hours each class) beginning at 12:00 pm. Toma is handing out a bargain at $75 for both days, $45 for one day (two classes) and $25 per single class! Many have found that my approach to teaching Modern Arnis is quite unique as I cover principles that are common to all martial arts rather than just technique application. This way the teaching fits into anyone's background, not just Modern Arnis or FMA. Contact Toma at 818-843-4984 (Aikido Daiwa Dojo number), or 818-367-7600 (info and answering machine). The Aikido Daiwa Dojo is located at 4404 W. Victory Blvd., Burbank, CA. Come one, come all - I am inviting you all to attend and am looking forward to seeing you there! There will be an introductory session at 11 am and an intermediate/advanced session (targeted at those with prior FMA experience) at 1 pm.   The seminar will be held at Elite Martial Arts 266 Mount Hermon Rd # S Scotts Valley, CA 95066   Cost is $20.   I can honestly (and seriously, which is rare for me) say that Steve is an accomplished martial artist and an excellent teacher, and that every time I've worked with him I've gained improvements in technique and overall body mechanics.   JK --__--__-- Message: 6 From: Kel620@aol.com Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2008 18:06:51 EDT To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Atillo Balintawak Seminar in NYC 10/18 & 19 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net GM Crispulo Atillo will be conducting a seminar in New York City on October 18 & 19, 2008.
