Hindi lang pang-pamilya, pang sport at romansa pa! (English please... "Not only for the family, for sport and romance too"). You need to patent the idea! All I know is that for my age, what I lack in stamina, I make up for technique... See you and GM Bobby in Vegas! To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Manong Jorge,   Inasmuch as the fight in question happened in the vicinity of Iloilo Clty's waterfront, the combatants were longshoremen which had just the usual end-of-workday "bol sang tuba" (jar of coconut wine) and "sinugba nga buriring" (grilled porcupine puffer fish)... =[:->]   Contrary to popular belief, most empty hand Philippine "sport" street fights last long because:   1. They involve physically well-conditioned members of the working class 2. They are not under any time pressure to produce results or to impress a panel of judges 3. The general attitude of combatants is defensive - avoid getting hit instead of inflicting a hit 4. Most combatants know how to pace themselves through a lifetime of fighting   5. Our LEOs don't even bother to break them up About 10 of the 15 minutes in question, for example, were spent by the combatants circling each other... =[:->]   On the contrary, the duration of Philippine blade-based life-or-death street fights are counted in mere seconds... =[:->]   The longest-lasting Philippine "sport" streetfight I have personally observed happened near Bonifacio's Monument at Caloocan City.  It lasted for about 20 minutes - and it was stand up striking all the way.  It was stopped when one of the combatants was already too tired to continue (but take note that the other one was still fit to go on at that point)...      Message: 5 From: "jorge penafiel" To: Date: Fri, 24 Oct 2008 23:29:18 -0400 Subject: [Eskrima] 15 Minutes !! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Yeah,,,,the fight is short compared to Kung Fu Flick fight scenes and provably also include break time to drink more "San Miguel Beer" or the local wine "Tuba",,hehehe. See that's the magic of these drinks - makes one foolishly brave, have lots of stamina, as well as verility specially when "Balut" is the pulotan (ask any pinoy this). Just for laughs as for now it's Flu season here in the east coast and the Flu Bug got me!! Geez,,no defense moves against this yearly pain all over the body. So,,,careful out there! BTW,,,get your Flu shots and if possible include the "Pneunonia shot too. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I would agree that "many" if not "most" modern arnis people are "mainly" stick people, but certainly not all of them. There are people who train/teach modern arnis who spend a whole lot of time with edged weapons. Perhaps not worth the post, but I just wanted to mention it because I am one. Datu Kelly Worden would be another one, and there are others.
