The face shields at the tournament were for fighters who weren't equipped for the knife fighting. We'll look into the paintball masks. We have decided to supply sparring helmets with face shields for those who who don't have have them at the next competition. The paintball masks may provide the protection from accidental blows and paint we need. We have a paintball guy but his day job has prevented him from coming to class and bringing his equipment. Ray the reason we're using rubber knives is because we allow full power thrusts to anywhere but the (head and neck) and the crotch. Hard weapons would cause internal injury at full speed. This is one of the problems we've found. Rubber weapons don't work well blocking, Hard weapons cause excessive physical damage. What we're trying to do is get as close as possible to a real knife fight without causing any permanent injury. We're at the beginning of our quest. As you saw it easily degenerates into he got me, I've got to get him back. What we are striving for is much more defense. Much of this is going to depend on training because it really is fun to paint your opponent. That's why we're offering $100 at competitions to anyone who doesn't take a killing hit. In our experience anyone willing to risk a killing knife hit can make a killing hit on their opponent. We're trying to train them to protect themselves first. Thanks for your comments. I'll forward them to my Master and we'll discuss them at our next class. Please feel free to comment further.
