Now I am here in the US, my answer changes " MA is my physical and body" leisure, past-time and exercise, and become a passion. When I was leaving in the Philippines and I bet all of the Eskrimadores that still in the Philippines MA is our way of life, you dont know who you will be facing outside or will try to take away your life. Is not easy to become MA'tist in the Philippines, once they know you are Martial Artist, they will fight you un-fairly, they will come to attact surprisingly and with multiple opponet and variety of weapon not mentioned Gun and lot of lots of variety of knifes and bolos (Swords). lastly MA is No Belt necessary. MA is a S-Kill stop to be Kill Salamat, Gat Puno Abon "Garimot" Baet Garimot Arnis Training Group International Laguna Arnis Federation International US Harimaw Buno Federation Hilot Research Center USA Tel. 954-432-4433 www.garimot.com ************** Life should be easier. My Passport to come here in the US and travel around the world is my skills in Culinary. I was not looking at to get rich in FMA. But I have to agree to some of the FMA make a living out of it. I just dont see my self seeing my student as d$$$$r sign everytime they walk in to my place. It hard to look at them as my Bread and Butter, or else everytime I teach them something, I would tag a price like that techniques is $50 US dollar. I understand the business side of it, but if you think this way, there so many to think about, student retention, retention even sacrificing the arts, devaluating the arts or waterdown, becaused you know ans I know, practitioner that dont feel not learning anything would quit in a hurt bit. So for business side of it this bad withdrawal or dropped out is bad less d$$$$r , if I lost that student I will lost that d$$$$r. So technically, talk retetion, give them something small and easy that make them feel they learning something then develop ladder of training, you "Belting" system, comoplage of d$$$$r stage p rogram, the more belt you offer, the more years this practioner would be in DOJO. Ultimate sacrifies is deluted arts, lousy fighter or sport puncher and kicker, grappler, stickfighter, etc. Go back to Challenge, Kapatid Jorge I know how you feel. I understand it getting too much, but this is a FMA and I was taught the sport way and combat way it's the same or the old timer Manong call Same same. Stick is replacing Blade, the movement of the stick become the movement of the hand for empty hand. I do not agree to those FMA practitioner that they used EXCUSES, they dont sparr or practice Sparring becaused our arts is DEADLY, why my arts is not DEADLY because we pratice Spaaring or Tourney? Or it goes something like this I dont need to prove something about the arts it was proven effective already before, it was used by my Grandmasters. Well, you are not your Grandmaster and without testing your skill you dont know what you missing and what you got that need to remove or add to your practice (In Arnis NO- S-KILL you can get KILL) the "S" on the skill means S-top to be KILL . I know it irritate some of you but the only one that irritated to the Challenges is those practitioner that already have full their cup, they just dont know what is in the cup? it's good $h$t or full of $h$t. As par as I know I have so much to learn from beginner from the expert fighter, without facing them or sparring with them I will miss to the max to undertand some of the most valuable lesson of Undrenaline rushed while your were under the pressure of your opponent. Win or Lose you gained.. Anyway I valued everyone opinion, Salamat Gat Puno Abon "Garimot" Baet Garimot Arnis Training Group International Laguna Arnis Federation International US Harimaw Buno Federation Hilot Research Center USA Tel. 954-432-4433 www.garimot.com ************** Life should be easier. To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi Red,   Whatever maybe their shortcomings, it cannot be denied that Prof. Remy Presas and Tuhon Gaje were able to elevate Ilonggo-based FMA to the global stage - and in the process opened the door for other Ilonggo-based martial artists.   That's why I personally prefer to treat them, the FMA styles they have established, and their legacy, as icons of Ilonggo culture - on the same level as Boracay, La Paz Batchoy, Pancit Molo, Biscocho, Pinasugbo, Piaya, Kalamay Hati and Inasal...  =[:->]   As long as people from outside come to patronize our products, it doesn't matter who sells and make money from them.   BTW are you related to Israel Gonzales?   Regards,       Bill   --- On Tue, 12/2/08, eskrima-request@martialartsresource.net wrote: Message: 10 Date: Tue, 2 Dec 2008 18:43:30 +0800 (SGT) From: Red Gonzales Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Mike Hanopol on Challenge Matches... To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Billy my friend,   PTK doesn't seem to share your idea of peace.  We are all idiots who are bastardized versions of the purity of the ancient art of Kali.    I guess if a huge, and I mean huge pot money can be forwarded, many will be more than willing to go risk body, limb, and all.  Life's hard in the Philippines, you know.    Maybe the Kali and Arnis guys will finally come together, at least at the expense of at least somebody from either or both sides.  I'm sure there would be alot of bettings.  It's interesting to see the showdown of the heads of Arnis and, Escrima, and Kali.    With whom will you bet?   We can help spread the news as early as now.  What do you say Bill?   --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Tue, 2 Dec 2008 10:34:46 -0800 (PST) From: william mcgrath To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] What Martial Arts means to me. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net When I started training in Pekiti-Tirsia, I was just a kid of 14. Back then martial arts meant the world to me and I wanted to be the best martial artist on the planet. My teacher, Tuhon Leo Gaje, was on a pedestal in my mind and I thought of him as a second father and that he could do no wrong. I kind of thought of Pekiti-Tirsia as my country and I was a fanatical patriot on that front. I am now 48 years old and between 14 and 48 something amazing happened to me - I grew up. With a wife, child, job, mortgage, college and retirement to save for, I now look at martial arts as an enjoyable way to keep in shape physically and mentally. I no longer care if I can beat everyone else on the planet in a fight. I only want to beat those I actually have to fight (and I try to keep those numbers to a minimum). I have been teaching Pekiti-Tirsia for nearly thirty years now, and have met some interesting people, been to some cool places and made some true friends along the way (looking back, that for me has been the best part of the whole thing). When I started martial arts, I looked at the art itself as the goal. Nowadays, I look at martial arts as a tool (a really, really cool tool, but still, just a tool) to reach a goal. Martial arts are not going to make you Superman, they are not even going to make you Batman. Hopefully, if you use them in the right way (and not let them use you), they can make you a better man.
