It's been a great year with some great discussions on this List. Looking forward to more in 2009. On behalf of GGM Ernesto Presas and the Int'l Philippine Martial Arts Federation, I would like to submit the following:   Happy New Year! Just got off the phone with GGM Ernesto Presas. He wanted me to extend his best wishes for a great and prosperous new year to all of you. He was unable to visit the States in 2008 but he did make it to Europe and had a great time, thanks to his hosts and their students! Although I think his health is not exactly great (he is on some type of holistic medication), from talking with him, I get the impression that he thinks he’s still fighting fit (smile) and is looking forward to seeing all of his students this year.   2009 IPMAF Training Camp The bi-annual IPMAF Training Camp is on schedule for April 20 through May 4. See the IPMAF website (http://www.presas.org/kombatan/index.htm) and this link for details: http://www.kombatan.org/camp2009.htm   Thanks, Tomi Harell (Finland) and John Malmo (USA Arkansas) for your collaboration on this. For those of you planning to go to the camp, GGM is requesting that you begin sending your deposits (50%) now. He needs the funds to make flight arrangements for everyone from Manila to Negros and back to Manila. If the number of Camp participants continue to grow, he will also need these funds to build additional huts and facilities at the camp site.   2009 IPMAF Hall of Fame & Presas Family Celebration The bi-annual IPMAF Hall of Fame had its inauguration two years ago in 2007. It will be held again in Negros, during the Camp. GGM Ernesto is inviting ALL friends and students of the three brothers (GGMs Remy, Ernesto, and Roberto) for the Presas Family Celebration in conjunction with the HOF. Last year, Grandmaster Roberto was the guest of honor and will likely be present again. I’ve spoken with Dr. Remy Presas Jr, and he has back-to-back seminars that he is already committed to. Hopefully, his sister, Mataas na Guro Mary Ann Presas can make it this year.   Arnis Kali Eskrima the Movie II? Filming of fight sequences for GGM’s second movie will also take place during the two week camp. As before, all camp participants are invited to appear in the movie. Have fun!   Kombatan 100 Hour Accelerated/Intensive Course Offering Since GM Lito Concepcion is still here in the States, I’ve put him to work here in my school (and he thought he could retire J ). For those of you who have no life on Saturdays, GM Lito will be conducting a 100 hour accelerated/intensive training course every Saturday, 9am-4pm, beginning January 10 and ending some 16 Saturdays later (May 2). At the end of the course, you will be able to test for rank. You can miss 1 or 2, but no more than 3 Saturday sessions, and make it up by arrangement with Lito or me. For those of you who can’t do it all day Saturdays, my regular classes are Tue & Thu 6-9pm, and Saturday 9am-12noon. (My regular Saturday morning classes will be combined with GM Lito’s class –both of us will teach.)    IPMAF Website & Kombatan Forum For those of you who may have noticed the scarcity of newsletters from me this year, the reason is simple: We’ve had a fantastic new website for the past year and it has a Kombatan Forum where everyone can participate in ongoing dialogues and post new topics for discussion. THAT is where you’ll find the latest news regarding IPMAF and Kombatan. The IPMAF Family Tree is there via separate threads for each geographical region. Thanks to all who have posted on those threads. Please continue to update the Family Tree as the years go by.   IPMAF Local News/Activities I would also suggest that each IPMAF chapter, or at least each geographical region, start up their own local news or activities thread so that everyone in the organization can know what everyone else in the organization is doing. I used to include this in my newsletters and everyone seemed to appreciate it –gave everyone a sense of “family”; a sense of cohesiveness. Now you can eliminate the middleman (me) and post your school’s news in the forum in a more timely and spontaneous manner. Maybe we can follow this template:   IPMAF country state city chapter (or HQ if headquarters) School Name if different from above Chief Instructor Latest Promotions (be sure to add Black Belts to Family Tree in appropriate thread) Latest Activity Upcoming Events Anything Else   Well, that’s it for now. After I send this out, I’ll go ahead and post the “IPMAF Local News” for my area. I encourage you all to do the same.   Warmest regards, Alex --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
