Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hello, As far in my concern, FMA is the original MMA, We do variety of weapons (Stick, Knife, Swords, etc.), We do Kickboxing (Mano-mano, Sikaran, Sikadtukan) we do Grappling (Buno, Gabo, Dumog, etc.) Befoere even World War-I we already incorporate Cannon (Kanyon) to our Armory, World War-II we do multiple hand made Gun (Sulpak, Paltik not to mention Dano is know to produce local Filipino Gun. Who can beat that? We do fight Street fight, Tournament, from Weapon to Grapple and Filipino make nmae long before Manny Pacquiao made it to the Modern Boxing. Back then Filipino Boxer already made name to the Boxing arena back in early 1900's like Pancho Villa always mistaken him to be Mexican, but everyone in Manong in California andrecorded to California Filipino history that he is full blooded Filipino. I am proud that Vera is making his name as Filipinio in the UFC and other MMA Sports, yes I called its sports since only portray or showcase Fist, kick and submission tournament. When I see it with weapons or variety of weapon and multiple oponent then I can call them real deal Mix Martial Arts. Just my 5 cents. In regards of Judo in the Philippines, and Jujitsu, I odnt know anything about the topic and the arts so I will leave that alone..Aikido, experience to fight some and I notice all fighter is weak in Fist fight and escaping techniques. I even "Hilot: few of them got hurts by rolling and break in to falls. But cant talk about their effectiveness, since I have not face GM or high ranking Aikidoka, the highes I face is 5th degree blackbelt then, needless to say I did well fairing with him. In fact any takedown (Throwing), disarming, strangulation,  twisting of arms or pinning (as in aikido)   the locals here called it combat judo or simply judo. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++   Be advised that the term "Combat Judo" was also used in the different regions of the Philippines back in the 70s when I was studying in the Pampanga area.. It was called Combat judo karate because it was also including the striking aspects of the FMA.. It was also taught using aspects of the Japanese Karate systems that were combined with the Buno and Dumog of the FMA.. I have talked to one of the shorinryu karate instructors here who was teaching in Manila in the late 60 and 70s when he was also calling his art Combat Judo Karate.. He still goes to Manila annually and gives seminars to his established schools there in Manila.. He was just there in April of 08 and probably going to be scheduled to go back again sometimes this year William T. Grandmaster Gaje as able to bring only one fighter to the Philippines. Tom Bisio, who at that point had only three years training in Pekiti-Tirsia. Leo entered Tom in the instructors devision (6 to 19 years training) and Tom won! I now have the three matches on my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TuhonBillMcg They are marked begining with Tom-Bisio-Fight1, then Fight2 and Fight3. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Not to take any thing away from the FMA, I love the arts too. But you have to go back to the Pankration days (before the death of Christ)to get the original MMA. Old Pankration tournaments always ended in death. Not to mention the battle field. Just my 2 cents.
