Haislet's section on Ring Generalship is pure mint! If you didn't know already, Bruce Lee's notes on boxing was taken primarily from Haislet's book. But I think you knew that already. With this pdf (which is an OCR), you can search, cut and paste text. the other version has been floating around the net for some time and that was scanned as pictures only, meaning it was not searchable or cut and pastable. Once again, Kirk Lawson, has done a great service for the martial arts community. Check out his lulu.com storefront for other books on rare and out-of-print books on boxing and wrestling which he has painstakingly trasncribed and offered as a free pdf DL. BTW, if you want to buy the 'dead tree' version as Kirk Lawson calls it, he is asking only a nominal fee for it. http://stores.lulu.com/lawson Enjoy! very truly yours in the MA, ~sg _________________________________________________________________ Access your email online and on the go with Windows Live Hotmail. http://windowslive.com/online/hotmail?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_HM_AE_Access_022009 --__--__-- Message: 2 From: "jorge penafiel" To: Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2009 20:12:31 -0500 Subject: [Eskrima] Balut Test !! Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Gord,,,,Leg pulling or not, this "balut eating" as part of a FMA Test, gets more better when done this way. After all day of showing all you got and fighting every seniors around for the Physical part of the test, next comes the Psychological and Mental part: It's the drinking and eating orgy of the Philippines best Foods for the Gods. Reason being every bite, sip, and swallow,,one will utter "Oh God". Drink is a concoction of a mix of beer/gin/coke, balut for treats, and for dessert a durian pie. == Now,,,this is some real fun here! You are tired, beaten up, force to drink the mixed drink, and eat balut as many times corresponding to the number of seniors present during the test. Then,,,when you're about ready to blow out, you'll be given the sweet nasty smelling durian dessert. Whammo,,,lite's out and you don't remember what happened next till you awoke next day with a terrible hang-over. Now, if your'e OK - the RANK is bestowed on you. This is what I call a complete test afterall. == Sounds like my college days in UP. No wonder, I did not become a Doctor as my parents wanted me to be.,,,hehehehe. Arnis de Mano which had its origin during the Spanish era in the Philippines using the bamboo sticks and any available rounded sticks during emergency skirmishes, was taught as a refresher and specialized course to a very select group of Barangay Peace and Security Officers (BPSO), headed by Barangay Police Commander Antonio dela Cruz, Jr. Known for his great following in the FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) in such Arnis de Mano-affiliated communities of Canada, US and Germany, The Australia-based Dantes, shared new techniques in "Defensive Tactics Seminar/Workshop for Law Enforcement Officers" during the 88th Araw Ng Barangay Poblacion, February 17 to 18. International restaurateur Mercedes dela Cruz - Barner, who brought Dantes to the province and main sponsor of the event said bringing the world-famous grandmaster of Arnis here will revive our interest for Arnis, which is an original Filipino martial arts. Mayor Domingo Lim thanked the dela Cruz family of Lupon for bringing Dantes to renew their interest for the sport which is related to the Filipino culture of self-preservation and national honor. He also thanked all the members of the Barangay Peace and Order Council headed by Kagawad Alan Balingit for their participation. --__--__-- Message: 5 Date: Tue, 24 Feb 2009 19:27:14 -0800 (PST) From: Felipe Jocano Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Balut Test !! for manong jorge and gord To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Manong Jorge; the way you describe it, the test gets tougher :-) gord, you taking this in? better not show manong jorge's email to your instructor, he might get ideas ;-) bot p.s. oh and yes, the "mixed drinking" is for real, especially in the provinces. a variation is beer/gin/tuba - one shot of each after another. tuba is pronounced too-ba (short a) and is fermented coconut wine. --- On Wed, 2/25/09, jorge penafiel wrote: > From: jorge penafiel > Subject: [Eskrima] Balut Test !! > To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > Date: Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 9:12 AM > Gord,,,,Leg pulling or not, this "balut eating" as > part of a FMA Test, gets > more better when done this way. > After all day of showing all you got and fighting every > seniors around for the > Physical part of the test, next comes the Psychological and > Mental part: It's > the drinking and eating orgy of the Philippines best Foods > for the Gods. > Reason being every bite, sip, and swallow,,one will utter > "Oh God". I was much too young to drink when I was growing up in the PI but I do remember having a sample of the tuba extraction from the palm trees. Pretty hard stuff.
